Benjamin Trail NP problem

Hello all,
           A relative newbie here with a problem I'd like your opinions on. My wonderful wife of 42 years bought me this airgun for Christmas, have always had cheap BB guns for plinking ever since I was a kid. Well I love this thing and the research I can do and I've learned a ton already. I made myself a silent pellet trap so I could shoot thirty feet down cellar. I had shot about half a can of Crosman premiers hollow points she had bought with the gun when my son came to visit. I don't believe he had ever shot a scoped rifle before so I give him a quick lesson on how to hold and especially the safety use. We were doing good trading shots back and forth and I think he actually shot better than me! (I not so good!) We were shooting nickel size groups at thirty feet. I had the binoculars watching the target and didn't notice he had put his eye almost on the rear off the scope, when he shot it hit his eye, left a little bump but no big deal I thought. From that point on it would group maybe 3 shots and then one 6 to 12 in. away, sometimes completely missing the trap. I tightened all scope screws and stock screws to no avail. I'm getting a different scope this week but I hope that's it. Just wondering if there is anything you guy's can think of to try before I call. It is under warranty. Thanks for any help or advice you can give...

I'm pretty sure that scope saw more significant impacts in shipment...the recoil isn't enough that it would hammer something broken by hitting your son's skull.

I would start by swabbing the barrel out.  Maybe there's a bit of crud in there that's dragging one side of your pellets.

Welcome to GTA kmiJ. Glad to have you aboard. As suggested, you should do a thorough bore cleaning with any new gun. Best recommendation is Goo Gone and a piece of weedeater line. One end heated and flattened and other end sharpened. Push a couple of patches onto the string and slide it down to the flattened part. Apply Goo Gone and run the line through from the breech end. Run several patches through until they start to come out clean. Then run a few dry patches through to wipe out the Goo Gone residue.
Check all mounting screws. You need to remove the two forward stock  screws and the one at the rear of the trigger. Lift the receiver away from the stock and check the breech pivot bolt. Make sure it is snug. Reinstall the receiver and make sure the three screws are tight. It will take several rounds to re-season the barrel but try these first before checking on a warranty replacement.

Thanks for the advise guys...I had already cleaned the barrel as described befor I even fired the first round. I think I will check all you mentioned again and clean the barrel once more. Its just weird it will shoot ten great shots and then one 6 inches away....

Check your pellets, too.

You may have a few deformed ones mixed in with the good ones.

Those pellets are notorious for having 'pee wees', undersized pellets that shoot exactly as you described. In fact ALL of the W-M Crosman pellets do.
The boxed Premiers are FAR better and JSBs are the current quality standard. H&N & RWS both sell quality pellets as well.

Get some quality pellets and start over.    Tom

The CPHP  work pretty well in my NP  and are great for informal shooting.  H&N FTT are the most accurate for me .

Try the Ben.  hp discoverys and the Crosman premiers domed ultra mags CPUM. They shoot good in all my guns.
