Ordered myself a Trail! What should I do first when I get it?
«

Well, I just got onto Manventureoutpost.com and ordered myself a Benjamin Trail NP for $189.00 shipped, think I made a good decision? What should I do to it first when I get it? Should I run patches of goo-gone through the barrel before I begin shooting my first shots? Also, what else should I do before shooting, and breaking in the rifle?
Thanks,
Jman

$4 at the Auto parts store. Before you use it make sure that all surfaces are fully degreased with carb cleaner or brake cleaner.

I might once i get the money, im 14 so it might be a while as I still owe my parents $100 for the gun. I can live with a crappy trigger as long as it isnt any worse than my metal trigger gamo big cats. I got use to the BC's and can get awesome groups even with the stock trigger.

Congrats on the new shooter
Like the others have said, clean the barrel, remove it from the stock and clean off all the greasy oil you can using denatured alcohol, also clean off the oil from the inside of the stock if there is any. Clean the stock screw threads with the denatured alcohol, re-install the stock using the blue loc-tite. Let the loc-tite dry and cure for at least 24 hours before firing the gun (48 hours is even better). Then have fun. Order the GRT trigger when you can afford it, you will be glad you did.
I'll be looking forward to your future posts on the rifle.

What Jeff said about getting all screws prepped and Loc-Tited, as well as the trigger.
Please
do
let us all know how it works out once you get it sighted and broken in.
You'll love having a gas ram once you get used to it.
You'll REALLY love it once you have saved up enough to get that GRT-III trigger, too.

....be sure to include the barrel pivot bolt while you are at it.
Right up front, you could...
Put 10 or 15 pellets thru her
after you clean the barrel.
That way you know all is well mechanically before you continue with the recommended items.
And, it will help you wait the 48 hours to let the loctite dry.
Great price at ManVenture - you have Crosman and the GTA for support.

ok, so can I use any type of goo remover to clean the barrel, or does it have to be a certain brand? Also about the loctite, can I break the gun in before I put it on? Im not sure I can afford goo-gone or loctite right when I get the gun at my door. I have some goo remover, but I am afraid if I decide to use it and its the wrong type ill mess something up in the barrel, so is there another cleaning substance I can use for the first cleaning? Also, is loctite a must or can it wait a week or 2 without my screws breaking loose?
Thanks again,
Jman

Actually you can wait to do all that cleaning stuff until you have the right stuff, Best to use "Goo-Gone" to clean the barrel.
Goof-off
might ruin the seal. I would think you could use something like mineral spirits or paint thinner sparingly on a patch, If you don't have a cleaning rod, you can use a piece of string-trimmer line. Use a piece about a foot longer than the barrel, heat an old knife on the stove, and flatten one end to make a "button" on the end. Thread it through a patch, and pull it through the barrel a few times. You can also hold the other end with a pliers and stretch out the other end over the heat to make it straight. It'll be easier to push through the barrel. Then follow up with a bunch of patches until they come out pretty clean. You definitely will have to keep an eye on all the screws until you can get the loctite, you'll probably have to tighten them daily. Be sure you use a larger size screwdriver for the bigger screws, if its too small it will be easy to strip the heads. Also, before you start working on her, make sure you have a clean workspace, preferably not your mom's dining table, unless she gives you the OK. And be very sure the rifle is un-loaded and uncocked!
You can get to the other stuff later as finances allow. Be safe....have a ball!

PS..... The first thing to do when you get it...Open the box and give it a big hug!
