Second phantom much different...

Approx two mos. ago I purchased a Crosman Phantom over the internet for 80.00. This is a really nice rifle. Had an extra scope laying around so mounted and sighted it in. Very happy with this gun. A week ago the same online store had it for 59.00. I thought great, I will get a second one and leave it unscoped to play with. I shoot paper in my back yard and occasionally like to shoot with iron sights. I recieved it yesterday and proceded to clean it with goo gone. I noticed the front sight was listing about 15 degrees to the left. It was solidly attached and would not budge. The second thing I noticed on cocking was very smooth until returning the barrel to the fire position. When I did this the action chattered and growled like a coffee grinder. After three break in shots noticed the reciever was rubbing against the forestock so hard it had scratched and rubbed off the bluing on the receiver. But this not where the grinding was coming from. On inspection, after removing the stock, noticed the articulated linkage was entirely different from the original Phantom. Had one single rod attached to another rod with a rivet that slides in a groove of the second link. Did not see where it was binding but it is in that linkage. I decided to compare the two guns. The original Phantom is approx. two inches longer than the newest. The powerplant is about an inch and a half shorter. The gun is lighter and the linkage of the original Phantom is far more robust. The new one does not have the roller guide nor foes it have the plastic thingie that separates it from the barrel. The # on the reciever of orig. is CS1K77 stenciled. The newest is CS1K77A. Just too much wrong with this gun. Going to return for refund. Amaz... will be getting this one back. No use in trying to exchange. Most likely would get the same model back. Please let me know if any one out there has experienced a similar problem with this rifle. Disappointed.

I read on this forum that somebody else said that they cheapen the phantom with a cheaper plastic stock an less metal. I don,t know if that true. The old ones were a great value.

hey starman , thanks fior the head up on the phantom. i was leaning towards the purchase of this gun before i read your post. from everything that i have read thus far i seems like that most airguns come from the factory in a rather unfinished state that leads the new owner to need a tune up or refining before he ha a fine rifle.

Yes newer versions were made a bit more cheaper and use more plastic.
