I’m a backyard air gunner. Not a competition shooter nor exceptionally skilled. Bought my first adult air rifle in or around 1988. It was a Beeman R-9. I shot that rifle quite often as it was my only air gun up till 2016 when it started making so much buzzing and noise I couldn’t stand it. After reading many comment and topics here on Gateway from guys like Ed, Motörhead, Bayman and Mark611i figured what the heck, I’ll tear it down and check it out.
Upon the tear down I found the spring broken in two places. So after reading several articles here , I ordered a Vortek PG2 12ft lb kit. I deburred the cocking slot, and the shoe, installed the kit with included seal and grease. Worked great was considerably more quiet and less hold sensitive. I’ve been shooting it since 2016 but in the back of my mind I’ve always wondered if a professional tune would be that much better. So I sent a newer (less than 200 rounds) HW95 .22cal off to Motörhead . It was loud and had the spring twang that made is hard to shoot well for lack of concentration.
Got it back today.put in back in the stock used blue locktite torqued the screws and WOW. After mounting the scope the first fifteen shots went into a group just under 3/8’ at 22 yards. The shot cycle is a small snik sound with zero twang and zero sound during cocking. The work Scott did is absolutely amazing, it’s hard to believe it’s the same rifle. So anyone on the fence about paying a professional tuner to do their rifle, I say get it done, besides accuracy it’s just so much more fun to shoot. I can’t believe I waited this long. I’ll be getting the other 5 done soon.
