Boy, I fervently hope that other states have simpler, better-defined hunting and pesting laws than CO does. What a tangled mess. I'd heard complaints about it before but thought they pertained only to the licensed hunting seasons and districts. They throw sport shooting in with pest eradication, and it's a weird juxtoposition. Why don't they add insects, too...

I'm in the clear doing what I'm doing, at least.

Florida's regulations for hunting with air guns change yearly.  You have to carefully parse the regulations each year to sure you're up on the minutiae. The general regulations apply to private as well as public lands (technically).  Each WMA has specific regulations for individual seasons (ie. no centerfire rifles during small game season).  In 2024 the Florida Wildlife Commission decided that gray squirrels were a varmint with no closed season and no bag limit.  In 2025 Blowpipe Sam decided that gray squirrels were a varmint to be terminated with extreme prejudice.

Yep. This changes everything.  Around here, the red(pine) squirrels are the destructive ones, they're like rats or coons. I shoot those every chance I get, and I have more fox squirrels around the house.  Those don't even bother the bird feeder, so I leave them alone.

I've got a permit from the state of Indiana to Eliminate critters that I feel are a nuisance on my property. I can use traps even conibears but no guns or even airguns since they are illegal for me to shoot in city limits ( I just take the live trap in the shop and shoot them with my Marauder) but I have to keep a record of what I caught and how I dispose of them which I just write down that I drown them. And then I mail the form in at the end of the year and renew it. Basically I'm iliminating every grey squirrel, opossum, raccoon and skunk that I can but I'm also allowed coyotes, fox and ground hog too. I did catch one red fox but it was after prime pelt time so I just released it. So if a neighbor would complain about it I'm totally legal.

Texas has 254 counties.
There are 51 counties in East Texas that have both a spring and fall hunting season. An additional 157 counties elsewhere in the
state are open to squirrel hunting year-round. Only in the Panhandle and far West Texas there is no hunting season on squirrels.
In addition to private property, East Texas offers plenty of affordable access to public hunting lands. In addition to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wildlife management areas (accessed with a $48 Annual Public Hunting permit), national forests, including the Sam Houston, Sabine, Angelina and Davy
Crockett are also prime squirrel haunts.

An odd one today while at my church this morning I saw a nutter with an unfound plastic egg from yesterdays Easter egg hunt, he was rolling it around trying to bite on it then spotted me and ran up a tree with the egg. Must have smelled the candy inside.
