There is a benchmark of tests for how well an AI system can solve problems that relatively simple for humans (average score 85%) called the ARC-AGI.... The latest Open AI system, called O3, has just broken this level, but only by using a huge amount of computing power, at a cost of thousands of dollars per task.... Here is where we are currently....
Note where a typical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmatics) Graduate scores, nearly 99% at a cost of about $10 per task.... However, since an AI system has finally broken the 85% mark for the average human (even though the computer is probably the size of a room), there will be an updated version of the test, ARC-AGI 2, coming in the first quarter of 2025....
If you want to learn about ARC-AGI, visit their website, where you can even take a new test every day....

.... or for the game....

I thin AI has both positive and negative impacts- currently and down the road. I have a couple coworkers who use it extensively for writing SQL code. I use it occasionally, but my fundamentals in SQL aren't good enough to really "tune" coding to know superlative code from good code.
It also helped a timely diagnosis on my sister's leukemia. She started her chemo this week and may actually be headed home from the hospital this very same week!
Then I think of the tech that my in-laws had come out to service their fridge whose service route was AI-built. He said every single day requires manual intervention to fix the broken routes that AI builds. In his instance, I'm a firm believer sloppy algorithms and poor coding are the problem.
My view? AI will help down the road with spaceborne navigation. I think we're still a ways from that point. Too much AI translates to "Nanny State" in my head.
