Anybody heard of an accuracy problem with the Hatsan Model 65 Springer?
Someone told me that Hatsan is aware of the problem but will only fix if the gun was purchased from a retailer.
Is it a barrel crown problem?
Pellet picky?
Or..............
??

IMO the Mod65 is a Frankenstein Monster creation by Hatsan. Some features I like and some I don't.
I DO NOT own one (yet) and will NOT buy one for the suggested $200 price tag.
The MOD65 break barrel seems to be a Mod95/85 action with an AIRTACT barrel assembly in a Turkish Walnut stock.
Things I like:
> Mod95/85 powerplant
> Quattro Trigger Group
> Coil Spring... have had too many Vortex air springs leak unexpectedly
> Walnut Stock... with some exceptions(1)
Things I don't like:
> The polymer coated barrel assembly with QE and faux air stripper(2)
(1) Love the look and feel of Wood/Walnut stocks but (for me) most thumb-hole stocks just don't FEEL RIGHT. I'd want to actually have one in-hand before buying. From past experience there is a good chance the size/shape won't work for me.
(2) I'm actually OK with the Airtact barrel assembly on my
$50 Airtacts
. I think that barrel assembly on a $200 rifle is a bad joke and I will PASS unless I can get a refurb for <$100.
There is some discussion on AGN about a Mod65 accuracy problem. From what I've read there could be several causes, even on a factory NEW model.
Loose screws, damaged seals, wandering scope, or maybe UNREALISTIC expectations from a "budget" springer. I didn't see any Chronograph data which would help diagnose a bad seal.
The comments about difficulty cocking and a hash shot cycle tell me "something" is not right. All my Hatsan breakbarrels in the 27mm piston seal family (18-23 fpe) are consistently smooth and easy to cock and the shot cycles are all clean single THUMPS when everything is working as it should.
IME Hatsan factory NEW or factory REFURBISHED breakbarrels are NEVER shooting the best they can right Out Of The Box. The Vortex air spring models DO shoot better OOTB but can also be made better with a little effort. The coil spring models can be pretty BAD OOTB but usually shoot MUCH better with some minor changes.
FWIW there is some speculation about Hatsan barrels notoriously having bad crowns. I've NEVER had a bad crown on a Hatsan barrel (yet). I HAVE SEEN (& repaired) only two bad crowns in MANY DOZENS of air rifles. One was a Crosman Vantage and the other was a QB78. I initially found my bad crowns by pushing a few pellets and/or examining the rifling marks on some shot/caught pellets. Visual confirmation and repair/recrown was easy on those rifles.
ANY springer can be pellet picky. IMO it depends mostly on leade/bore dimensions relative to the pellet dimensions. If that is a problem then I suggest shooting at least 250-500 pellets through any new springer using just the open sights. If the performance or pellet-pickiness is unacceptable then return the rifle for refund. No reason to keep a rifle that doesn't make you smile when you shoot it :-)

I have a model 65 in 22 . I never bothered to put the scope on it. Because I shoot it very well with iron sights. I have head shot rabbits and squirrels getting n my garden out to 35 yards with iron sights so I don't see any accuracy problems. That being said I have only shot the one gun
