Fx impact 22 vs 25 for slugs?

Hello everyone. What is your thought on the FX impact  22 vs 25 cal considering slugs? Also what barrel length? 600mm vs 700mm?Thamks and I look forward to your reply’s

I have a 22 and a 25 Impact and there is no way to answer your question. It all depends on what you want out of the gun. Do you have a full understanding of how a PCP works? You’ll need it to understand how to tune your Impact. Do you understand just how difficult it is to get slug accuracy that will match a pellet? You are going to be sending a mind boggling amount of lead over the chronograph and at paper before and if you will ever get to enjoy the gun. Do you think that you can just ask someone for their slug tune, set your regs, micro and macro just like theirs and live happily ever after? I promise you, with slugs that absolutely is not happening. One of the most overlooked and never talked about things about the Impact is this. What makes the gun so versatile and tunable is also it’s Achilles heel when it comes to keeping that perfect tune you thought you found yesterday. An Impact owners hobby is mostly tuning compared to other guns where your hobby is shooting. So that’s some of my thoughts dating back to 2016 when I sold my first Impact because I got sick of chasing tunes and at that time, leaks. I returned to the gun a couple years ago because I wanted a rematch with all the knowledge I gained in the meantime. My M3 in .22 has been behaving lately. My .25 that was previously a pretty solid shooter is about to get wrapped around a tree. Both guns have never shot a pellet, they are straight slug guns. I would never tolerate the sensitivity of an Impact just to shoot pellets.

I myself, do not have an Impact but friends do have them one is a M3 Sniper .22 which has a 700mm barrel. The 700mm barrel will give more FPS more easily than a 600. For tuning, NSA, Giriffin, H&N plus others do make sample packs of different size and weight slugs. Size, length, and weight will dictate your barrels preferences. I shoot both pellets and slugs from my RAW in .22. If mostly for hunting either will hunt well, if target and hunting I think .22. As saiid above, chasing pellet accuracy with slugs can be very time consuming (tuning) but well worth the effort. But hunting accuracy is more easily doable. I would start tuning @ 900fps and go up incrementally....you'll see right away which slugs will give you accuracy. Have fun and good luck!

I have a MK2 shooting 34 gr pellets in 25 cal 700 mm bought a 22 but it just didn't put down the critters like the 25 does I have a couple barrel kit thinking I'd be tinkering more but really like the way it's set up now and seems to be holding tune well I'm running a Huma daul stage reg which really took care of the guns amp regulator creep definitely a shooter my friend has m3 30 cal it's a hammer and deadly accurate as well so far it's been tune and forget using pellets but like others stated slugs can be a pain best way is to slug your barrel to find correct size then start trying several weights around what size you want to shoot and several brands nsa slugs seem to work well for a lot of people also need to find the correct speed for them to get the accuracy node

Thanks for your replies. I own a few pcp’s none are regulated or what would be considered high end. That being said they have been accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. I am turning 50 this year and I have my eye on the impact. I understand that it may not be the perfect gun and maybe I am caught up in the hype but I would like to try one. I think I may go with the 25 cal . Barrel length is yet to be determined. Thanks as always.

I have the Impact mkII in .25 & so far have not found a slug that equates to the accuracy of the JSB 33.95 mkII pellet, which is devastating on groundhog head shots. I'm still trying. I'm using the 600mm FX STX Superior Liner but also have tried a 600mm heavy liner which started out as the 700mm liner which I cut down to the 600mm/no choke & then crowned, etc.. So far I've had marginal success with NSA slugs but not yet quite as good as the JSB 33.95. Until I get better, which I will keep trying to get, I'm sticking with the 33.95. It's going to be difficult to improve, because the 33.95 is so darned accurate. We're talking MOA or less at 92 yards. (the limit of my range) FYI 33.95 @ 905 FPS. So far, I'm still sticking with what shoots best as I hunt G-hogs with this gun. Maybe this Summer I'll spend the time to fine tune the NSA slugs to equal the pellets but it's not going to be a priority as the pellets are very adequate. I also have a MKII Crown in .22 (Superior Light) which I use NSA 17.5  .2175 slugs @ 984 FPS @ a pretty high 160 Bar reg setting which is the most accurate PCP I own at 40+yards. I can consistently hit a pea at that 40 yards. That even amazed me!

I have the .25 Impact MK2 with 700 Superior Heavy, and I am shooting in my gun club only, BR 50 and 100 meters.
Last year I shot about 7K 33.9 gr MK2's and just before winter started buying slugs. I got some in 37 grain, 41, 44 and 46 grain boattails.
Needless to say to make the slugs 37 gr and heavier to fly decent that will cost tons of money + trial and errors + tons of parts + tons of money, and how many nights sleepless that is just priceless.
What I learned that up to 100 meters no "golden" slugs will outperform the pellets.
Talking about shooting slugs is more a hipster thingy, you wannabe different then the average dude...but you need a special license to drive that train.
You know what? Take a .30 pellet gun...that will be a best performing shooter for a life.

What are you wanting to shoot at? Shooting past 100 yards? Shooting in windy conditions?
These factors might help you decide between slugs one pellets.

I got an impact m3 sniper in 25 cal. I went with 700 barrel thinking maybe it would take less air to make same shot…not sure if my thinking is correct.
I mostly shoot 50 yards and tree squirrels so pellets will be my main ammo.
Took 1st shots with it other day and I need to improve plus I need to tune the gun.
But I seen great potential, gun is solid built, build quality seems pretty high.

Figure out what your needs are and buy the gun with that in mind

I cannot comment on the FX vs FX, but I can on the .22 versus .25 debate for slugs.  My Leshiy Classic works superlative with Hades pellets in .25 using an Alpha barrel.  Superlative as in 2" free-holding no bracing, at 50 yards.  No, that's not MOA, but for a lightweight compact shouldered carbine with no bracing, that's good. 

I switched it to an older .22 barrel, ordered a few more NSAs in a smaller size (.2165) and now I can reach out further with a better shotcount and the same accuracy.  Or tune for more power with the same shotcount; all while achieving better ballistics for dealing with the constant breeze on our property.


Figure out what type of shooting you're going to do, then tune/adjust accordingly.  Slugs generally handle winds better, but pellets typically offer more flexibility in tuning.  Plkus there's a larger variety of pellets shapes.  Low speed wadcutters for close in pesting or punching paper?  Pesting with domes, HPs, or Polymags?  Loing-range pesting with pellets like the Hades and super heavy domes, or simply reaching way out and touching targets (living or not) with slugs- the good news is the FX platforms offer multiple barrels so you have options.  In your shoes, I'd order the FX and multiple barrels.  Test and tune pellets and slugs, document your findings, then see if they are repeatable. 

My Leshiy struggled with NSAs until I ordered the .2165 slugs; now I find I can shoot multiple weights of NSAs as long as they are that same size.  However, I also documented the various tunes I've made on the Leshiy, like 640 FPS with Polymags works for either .22 or .25.  Or .22 RWS wadcutters work superlative at 560 FPS.  Or .25 Hades at 860 FPS... it is all about the tune; take time to figure out what works, what works best, and what works best for your immediate needs.
