1077 range

I know some folks have a love/hate relationship with the 1077….I happen to like my 2 a Woodstock and a synthetic….I just put some new parts in the WS …piercing pin/seal and a new valve…I had a new valve body…I did not know and apparently didnt order enough parts …as I had to strip the old valve of couple things…initially the  gun was shooting fine… but began leaking  at the seal…and a new seal wouldnt allow cart to pierce ..eventually got cart to piercing…but then no power …?..replacing the valve cured no power …while in it did the detente mod…not smart enough to do trigger…lol….now to my question….

Am I wasting gas/pellets trying to get these guns to shoot 30 yards….
What is a desirable distance

I have the Wildfire, gave my 1077 away for parts, but still no powerhouse, struggles to be a good gun @ 10 yards
