AEA Challenger .30 cal Questions

Looking at slugs, wondering what you all have had luck with?  I see different types available. Cup base. Bowl base. Boat tail base. Anyone have suggestions for the type of base? Weights?

I’m mainly going to be plinking with it but I want to take it out hunting as well. Im hoping to find a slug that provides the best accuracy, one that has the most velocity and also one for the most power. I know this will take a lot of experimentation but looking for some good ones to start with.

I also have a question about the hammer spring for it. Is there a heavier one available? I saw if you fill it up to 4500 psi the stock spring wasn’t heavy enough.

I’m also wondering if .308 slugs will work in it as I know the barrels is .303.

I’m wondering the same thing about .308 slugs in the .30 cal. also.
I saw where someone had checked their bore and came up with .303....if that’s the true bore dia. .308” would be .005” over bore dia....pretty tight fit lol.

Did you slug your bore, or like me, saw where someone else had?
I keep looking at the .30 AEA myself, but if it’s .303”, i’ll be ordering a custom mold from accurate molds or someone else that makes a .303 or maybe .304” slug mold I think.
Have you tried slugs in yours yet?
I’m waiting on more info before diving on the .30 AEA. Sure is a lot of rifle for the price.
I’ve almost ordered a .22 a dozen times lately, but like you I want a bit more info on the .30 cal. than i’ve been able to find.
Knowing me i’ll wind up with one in both cal. before it’s over lol.

I ordered mine a couple days ago so it’s not here yet. Trying to order ammo before it arrives! I’ll let you know how mine does.

the nsa 61.5 gr slugs work well in my challenger pro,-1" groups at 60 yards @960fps on full power with reg set at 180 bar. they do seem a bit loose in the barrel, like the other guy said. Slugs from mr hollowpoint which are at .302 or .303 are a bit more accurate, but the nsa are fine for headshots on squirrels. At @120ft-lbs it would be fine on up to a yote, Id say.

Glad I found this thread. I was just about to make one just like it. My own Challenger Pro in .30, is on its way to me. The only things I lack, are a scope which I’m still selecting, ( I have other guns to rob from in the mean time), and slugs. I too was wanting to know some specifics on which slugs can, and cannot work. I’d hate to buy a bunch only to find out they simply will not work. So I’m wanting to know which diameter slugs to start choosing from.

.308 bullets could be resized to fit a .30 cal, but you would have to do it in 2 or 3 steps.... For that caliber, about 0.003" per step is all you can do, depending on the shape and hardness of the bullet....

the NSA I have mic out to .300, mr hollowpoints that I have are .303-.302 with the finest chinesium micrometer very little money can buy, I'll check them with my Mitutoyo at work tomorrow and edit if it is significantly different. they group about the same, with roberts having a wee tighter grouping.
