The first one took one through the lungs and didn’t last more than 10 seconds after that hit. I didn’t take the time to look hard for the wounds, as it was 5* outside. I threw him the woods for the night clean up crew. He was a beauty, but I’ve got enough nutters in the freezer for a good while.
The second was backed against the tree with his head down. I put one right between the eyes. It always amazes me how much they bleed with head shot from a .22.
The last one was this morning. He’s a small dark one, balls hasn’t dropped yet. He was quartering away from me, ready to run. I went for the lung shot again, since I’m not saving them any more. If they get into the woods before conking out, I only lose the photo opp. I pointed to the entry wound with the stick. Exit, you can see clearly enough.
I got one other one, who’s not pictured. Lung shot, and he ran over to the fence, up the tree and over the fence, jumped to another tree in the woods, then fell out and crashed down into the leaves. That all happened within three seconds. It’s amazing how quick they can be after they’re ventilated…
All shots: Air Arms S510 Extra FAC in .22, ~28 FPE, JSB 18.1, 25 yards standing, braced on door stile.
I think I’m going to go back to the .177 Brocock Compatto with Baracuda Hunter hollow points; this is too long of a gun and not as quiet. (Barrel sticks way out the back door…)

Jeremy, those are some very nice shot you made. Lately, I have not had squirrels close enough to try for head shot and
hit the mark
. I did try for a head shot yesterday; but it was a close miss - a miss nevertheless.

Nice shooting Jeremy. I emptied out my "meat bag" from the freezer a couple weeks ago. Just put a little in, however.
