I finally started posting on this forum recently. I have been reading it periodically for much of this year. Here is a little info and history about myself:
I'm a 54 year old California native. I'm semi-retired and was a mechanical engineer (still am just don't practice). I designed locks for several years as my first job out of college. I got some patents on a new mortise lock design that is produced by the Schlage lock company. They still sell it and the design has not changed in 30 years. I worked in the Silicon Valley during the 80's when computers were the big growth industry. I did CAD (computer aided design) and wrote software, manuals, did training, and mechanical design consulting. Ten years ago the PC/CAD industry was changing and smaller CAD developers like myself were getting squeezed out or absorbed. I decided that I did not want to spend so much time sitting at a desk and got into other things. I like to work with my hands and do physical work. I got into electric vehicles in the 90's and was very interested in that for a time. I designed and built a small house from the ground up a few years ago. It took me 4 years but I learned a lot. I have been a motorcycle enthusiast for many years but took a break while I raised my two young kids. I have owned dozens of different motorcycles and scooters over the years. My current ride a 1988 Goldwing and my supportive wife enjoys the comfortable passenger accommodations. I have a small shop including my old faithful 1928 Southbend lathe. It has been a valuable tool for my airgun experiments. I used to shoot and do some reloading when I was a teen. Earlier this year I ran into an old friend that I used to shoot with when we were youngsters. It got me reminiscing about it and I started looking into it again. That is when I ran across airguns. My first rifle as a kid was a Daisy model 25 BB gun but that was the only airgun that I had ever owned up until recently. My now 24 year old son got into airguns with me and we decided to work on our shooting accuracy before we go rabbit hunting. So right now we are having a great time target shooting. I love the intricacies of the spring guns. My sons goto gun is his Benjamin Discovery, a PCP rifle. He recently took 3rd place in the California State FT Hunter class which was only his second competitive match. I also shoot at the matches but have a ways to go before I am competitive. At the first day of the state match, each competitor was paired up at random with another shooter. I had the privilege of being paired up with the national champ, Doug Miller. Amazing to watch. 3/8" kill zones, wind, offhand, or 55 yards, He rarely misses. Something for me to aspire to.

Welcome to the GTA Scott!- it sounds like the mechanics of airgunning is right up your alley.
Looking forward to your input on some of the modification and repair/ problem-solving issues.

Welcome, Scott
I'm betting you are going to enjoy it here on the GTA. There's lots of folks that enjoy tinkering with airguns and making parts and new mods for them. We also have some motorcycle enthusiasts as well.
Its cool to hear that you are enjoying shooting with your son. Its always nice to have a partner.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks."
