New G2 .22 in the house.

After watching Hajimoto's review on the Umarex Gauntlet G2 in .22 I knew I had to have one!
It just came in today. I have to say, so far I like it.
I took the barrel off and cleaned the heck out of it. I had some of the nastiest preservative gunk that I've ever seen. Like tar.
I used a nylon bore brush and Ballistol to get most of it loosened up then pulled a bunch of ballistol soaked patches through until it was clean.
Then I got out the JB Bore Brite and some mops and polished the bore. Then gave it another thorough cleaning.
I mounted a section of Picatinny rail under the bottle shroud. It is nice that it comes with the MLock slots.
I mounted a West Hunter 4-16x44mm FFP scope on it. That is a pretty nice scope for the money. I like it.
I also adjusted the trigger too.
I have some JSB 25.4 Redesigns, H&N Barracuda 21.14, and some H&N 21gr & 23gr .217 hollowpoint slugs to try it out with.
I probably won't make it out for a few weeks. Work is crazy and the truck is going in the shop next week.
I might run a few rounds over the chronograph just to see where it's at.

I dropped the dang thing on the scope and busted it so now it wears a better Bushnell 4X12-40mm Banner 2 scope. And that tightned up the groups a little. It evaporates HOSP! Nothing left but a few feathers blowing in the breeze .

The styling is bizarre but it sort of grows on you after shooting it a little. It does take a strong hand to cock. The barrel took a lot of patches to come clean. The trigger is unfortunate and I have not had time to fool with it. But it works, just scrunchy feeling.

So far it's holding.
I'm going to put a Hajimoto super tune kit soon, so if it's not it will then.
The trigger is easy to adjust. Make sure you de gas it before and remove the bottle. I took about a mile out of the first stage on mine, then backed off the preload a bunch. It's no FX, but it's a lot better than the way it was out of the box. The hardest part is getting the action back in the stock with that little black rubber spacer in the back of the stock and the safety through the bottom.
Yours looks like a real shooter. Can't wait to get mine out.

No. I haven't noticed any touched up areas. The area in the breach where the mags go has some pretty sharp edges. I think I will take a file to them. The mags wouldn't go in at all at first. I loosened up the grub screws for the barrel and adjusted the fit. They work now. When I was taking it apart I noticed several of the screws were not tight. If you do have one of these guns I think it's a good idea to go over  it and tighten all the screws up.
Maybe I won the bolt handle lottery, but mine seems ok. The handle does flop up and down when you shoot them, but that's just the way they are. I guess I'm used to it as the owner of a G1 .25 Gauntlet.
If you put your thumb on the back of the receiver when you cock it it's not so bad.

Maybe I will take this rifle down a little ways and clean it up and investigate the errant pieces. But my question is, how do I perhaps tighten that bolt handle up? I am looking at the PLs but I do not see how it installs into the breech bolt?

Look at the area that the bolt handle rides in. The corner, fore and aft, of that slot, the corners are clearly hand worked and touched up. And since I got (3) of these things before getting one that held air I did notice that re-work on each of them. I did not notice the bolt handles on the leakers because I was never able to shoot them.

I like my G2, I like how it shoots and the balance is not bad. I just need to give it some TLC now that my Urban is 100% GO TIME and my Marauder is, well, it was 100% functional out of the box.

The bolt handle is an easy fix. You do not need to degas. Just remove the front shroud (three small Allen screws) and then remove the three Phillips screws that retain the stock (note the safety switch will need to be finagled through the slot in the stock). You will NOT be able to pull the stock off but (because there is a plastic bridge across the front top of the stock that mates with the forward shroud) you can let the rear portion drop away which will expose the trigger assembly and the aft screw of the trigger assembly goes up and through the two rear caps on the lower tube and the cap on the upper breech. Remove that screw enough such that the upper cap can be slid rearward and out. EASY. Then look up in there and you will see an Allen head screw inside the bolt that locks the bolt handle in place. This screw needs to be tightened up. So do so. Now your bolt handle is as tight as mine is .

So your G2 is not like this? Note the two chamfered areas:

I do a lot of sitting at a rest type shooting now, less roaming the woods shooting than I use to.  Conceptually, a Gauntlet is well suited to that.  The two main complaints (heavy and long) don’t matter when I’m going 20 feet to the bench and setting it down on sand bags.

Only time I’ve been inside one was a G1. I’m just assuming the G2 didn’t change the basic guts.  Not too surprised to see a whole lot of QB78/79 influences.  For me, that was a plus as I’m very use to dealing with the QB.

Bolt handle attachment is pretty much like mentioned...a grub screw in from the back of the bolt body.  There is a detent on the bolt handle, if the grub screw doesn’t latch into the detent, it will just loosen up again.  Loosen the set screw slightly, just enough to spin the handle but feel the drag of the screw...where you feel no drag is likely where the handle detent is.

Trigger is pretty much the QB design (or late Crosman 160). It’s a pretty simple, but good trigger system.  The adjusting screws on the back of the trigger housing work, but I’d shoot it for a time (break in) before settling on a final adjustment.

Same safety system...which is not directly connected to trigger function.  Basically are raising a plunger to block the sear as you operate the safety….stiff spring powering the plunger.

Wear pattern on the corners of the bolt cocking slot does indicate at least a few bolt cycles...they all rub of the sharp corner quickly.  Does look like it was touched up with a dab of paint/magic-marker.

Mine came that way new out of the box. It does not bother me, just more a curiosity, because the rifle is otherwise perfect. Beats me.

The stupid bolt loosened right back up, I will investigate further when I get a moment. Even that really is a minor thing. I think what loosens it up is letting the bolt snap forward, I will stop doing that.

I may get a CF bottle, a smaller bottle as well. And I may make, cut, fab, purchase a shorter shroud. I live on acres, if my neighbors can hear me they need to go get back on their acres . Actually, my immediate neighbors and I have free roam of each others property.

I am sorry to hear that. Seems to be the bane of these China rifles. It did not come aired up either? There really is no excuse. I would pay another $50 if they would ship with air and a proper leak check and a test target like Crosman did (at least for mine).

So far this one I have does not leak and it is too late to return it so I am stuck, it MUST work . This is not confidence inspiring.

Some good news.
The H&N slugs showed up from Utah Airguns. Those guys rock! Anyway, the 23gr H&N hollow point slugs fit in the .22 Gauntlet magazine just fine. How they shoot? I can't say. They should provide perfect velocity, in the mid 900's, as the 25.4 Redesigned pellets supposedly run at a little over 900 fps. We'll see how they do on paper. I'm also going to order some NSA 23gr slugs in various diameters.
I also got some 21gr H&N .217 slugs, but they look pretty short. My experience with projectiles like that is they don't shoot that well. We'll see how it goes. The 23gr H&N slugs look more promising. NSA slugs

As a fellow G2 owner I thought the G2 had a choked barrel for pellets only? And do not pellet optimal barrels have a twist too slow to stabilize a slug? Slugs are another learning area for me.

It depends on the gun. I have an AirForce Condor .25 with a choked barrel that shoots NSA 36.2gr slugs lights out! It also shoots JSB 33.95gr MkII Heavy pellets really well. My G1 Gauntlet .25 doesn't like slugs. Neither does my .25 Marauder. A lot of people shoot slugs in their Air Venturi Avengers. We'll see how it goes.
