Anyone has traveled by air with an air rifle?

Finally got a hold of someone at Delta and they tell me is NO problem to put the BB/Pellet gun in the suitcase, NO Hard case needed. 

In Guatemala they sell BB / Pellet guns too, so it should be OK.

I remember long time ago i did take a Crosman 1377 in my luggage, but never a rifle.  The one time that I did take a Crosman Multi pump rifle, it was in its original box that I purchased at Walmart, but this will be the first time I bring a pellet rifle with the stock off so that it will fit in my luggage.

Anyways, I will have my brother check just to make sure there are NO problems at customs when I arrive.  I will be spending close to a month there and want to have something to shoot.  Didn't like any of the rifles they did have for sale there.
