How hard is it for a newbie to install a Vortek PG3 tune?

If you are replacing the piston seal as you should. Disassembly goes spring>barrel >piston. Reverse for reassembly. I recommend the Vortek piston seals. It's also a good idea to remove the piston because you'll likely find factory lube in the compression chamber that needs to be cleaned out. Otherwise it will diesel and probably damage the factory seal in short order. I've done lots of these and this has been my experience. The Vortek kits are money well spent.

Also while you have it apart remove the tension spring from under the plastic cocking arm glide. It puts too much tension on the glide and it will squeegee the grease out. Then the cocking will sound and and feel gnarly. If you don't remove it you'll be removing the stock often to grease the glide.

There are a couple of excellent European YouTube videos on the takedown and reassembly of HW50S'.  I suggest the use of a Spring Compressor for the takedown of 50S' sold for American use.

Not a bad suggestion. There's a fair amount of preload on them. It's not necessary if you are a big strong guy but its good idea to be on the safe side. You won't need it going back together, the Vortek kits run a lot less preload.

Thanks, the TX200 had zero preload, tear down was a breeze. I use to be a strong guy... I'll test the water before pulling the plug. If too much preload, I'l cobble together a compressor. If I feel like I can handle the spring, I'll lean into it...

A spring  compressor is the smart way to go. Not only for safety, but it also acts as a jig,...or for better words, an extra set of hands for reassembly.

You can't really test or feel the preload the way the rifle is set up. The trigger block is keyed into the compression tube and has to be rotated to unlock it from compression tube. The trigger block holds the spring pressure and can't be moved forward or backwards when locked. As soon as you unlock it it will jump apart if not constrained. It's the same exact design as the Hw95 /R9 if you can't find a YouTube video on the Hw50 disassembly.
