PowerMaster 66

Picked up this little PowerMaster 66 at a pawnshop a few years back for $20. It's hung around here and not shot forever, seems like.
Been browsing through some of the bb guns this past weekend to see what works and what don't. This one has stopped holding air. I can hear the air blow right through the valve and out the barrel when I pump it. I could do the alcohol flush but, I think I'm just gonna dig into it instead. I got seals and whatnot so, why not?

If you can't tell, it's a black gun with gold trim and trigger... really a sharp looking little gun and it will clean up real nice.
It's on the bench now and the plan is to get going on it after work today.

I got one similar off the bay for the same $$$$, but the receiver was busted at the tang.
I had a set of Recruit receivers laying around so I swapped them on.
Cleaned the rusty barrel shroud and re-blued the barrel.
Looking pretty good now....could use some attention to the pump tube, but I'll save that for another day.

It would pump up and shoot, but not hold air for too long.
The Secret Sauce seems to have helped that...
Maybe I'll rebuild the valve when I do the tube bluing.

This one came with the gold tube 20mm scope but it was bad and is long gone. I've got a black one I'm gonna put on it.
I'll most likely gift it to some kid. I end up doing that with many plastic fantastic that somehow sneak into my possession.....

Upon further review....
I went home for lunch today and opened the drawer to grab a fork. I noticed a large basting needle from a turkey injection kit we used a couple holidays past. The light bulb came on....
Why not give it a shot....literally.
So after I ate I took it to the bench and drew some alcohol into it, opened the pump arm on the 66 to expose the space forward of the pump cup and injected the alcohol. At about one half stroke I could hear the air stop escaping and the pump arm got hard.
I cocked the gun and pulled the trigger keeping pressure on the pump arm. I got a blast of alcohol out of the barrel... dark and nasty.
I repeated this 3 more times until the alcohol was clear. Then I pumped the gun and dry fired until I saw no more mist of alcohol.
I opened the pump arm and put 6-8 drops of secret sauce down the tube and shot that off 3 or 4 times.
Now the gun pumps up good and strong and sends a bb downrange quite effectively.
Lunch time was over and I had to come back to work. I'm anxious to see the results when I get home.

A wise man once told me that alcohol is not the answer to everything..... I now question his wisdom....

Technically this is a model 664GT.
my very first air rifle at age 7, got another off Ebay in 2019 but it was a much later one which had a black grip spacer instead of the gold it would have had before they were just using up what parts they had left before dropping the model.

Now that you mention it, I do remember someone telling me this before.
I remember it now...
it was missing the rear sight and I got it from Davio at Needfulthings. He told me what I had.

I find it funny that they even bothered to give it a model number if they weren't going to put it on the receiver.

I have one too, mine is an 01 with the 5 shot clip.
Not sure if that's good or bad but it's a nice looking gun.

My original 664gt was actually made on 9/11 of all days.
It shot very well from what I remember and I was able to shoot generic tic tac mints all day long at 10yds, the '05 example I got in late 2019 doesn't seem to be as accurate but I have been spoiled by better guns over the years since it quite on me about 15 years ago.

I got home from work and it still pumped up and held air. There must have been something in there and the alcohol flushed it out because I didn't even need to let it soak.
I went down to the barn shop to get something and found a pair of old Crosman 760 plastic fantastics. One has a clip. I'll see about getting those up and running next. One has a pretty baldy rusted barrel.
For now the 66 just need a good wiping down and it's good to go.

Ya know? I knew we had a boatload of pellet guns around here but, I had no idea we had this many BB guns...

I had one of the 664/66gt and  I decided it would make a good 13xx cabine basically because it is a better power plant for a 13xx than the 13xx pump...

It has a 4.2" stroke vs the 3.5" stroke  of the 13xx... and the  pump  grip was better than the stock 13xx grips...a good alternative to the 2289 bug out grips...

So it became a 1322MLT right around 12 pumps to get ~600 fps with 14.3 CPHP...with stuffed piston and still using a pump cup not flat topped...

Yep, I've read about these conversions. I think I'll leave this one stock.
Sometimes just old can killin' bb guns are just as fun.
And like I said.... it would make a great beginner gun for some kid.

I gave a bb gun to the grandson of the owner one of the ATV parks we go to a couple months back. That kid carries that thing everywhere he goes.... just like we used to do.

Well I had just the one 66... but have picked up a few cheap yard sale plastic 760s that I fixed up and gave away.
