Titan NP Weak

I chronied my recent Titan NP purchase as I didn't think it was flinging pellets like it should.
Average speed around 400fps.
Way too low................

Cocking effort is substantial
I just replaced the breech seal
Anything to try before I open her up??

Think I have read that these NP rifles should be stored muzzle down...
Could not doing so be the problem?

Before investing a lot of time and money, if you purchased the rifle new it is either defective or your chronograph has issues.  Cocking difficulty is kind of a subjective thing though with the gas strut working properly the difficulty should be between thirty and forty pounds.  Low pellet velocities are usually a function of a defective gas strut.  Difficulty cocking can be the strut, the linkage, a too tight piston seal, binding, or any combination.  Only you can decide how to proceed.  As far as storing muzzle up or muzzle down it depends on the configuration of the gas strut itself.  It's best if you store the gun such that the lubricant inside the strut pool at the end where the rod exits.  I think in the case of the Crosman guns that is usually barrel down.

I purchased the rifle at a pawn shop for $40.00..........even if I could get my $$$$ back, I would not.......
I have to do the tissue breech test. Maybe I need to shim the new seal.

No biggie at this point; I just want it shooting like it is s'posed to......
I have read that oiling is a bad idea......

The tissue (paper towel) test showed significant leakage at the breech.
I had ordered a couple of shims for the breech, so I installed both of them.
Leakage greatly reduced, if not eliminated.
More testing to come.

I will say that the Titan is significantly harder to cock than my Hatsan 1000 Vortex.....

Muzzle velocity increased to 650 with Crosman Premier .22 14.3gr pellets.
I have read that MV could be as high as 800fps with a "standard pellet," so I guess more investigation is in order.

I don't have that exact model, but Crosman says up to 800 fps with standard pellets. On similar Crosman rifles I do have that translates to a realistic 750 fps for the CPHP 14.3 grain pellet. If your rifle is well below that, one or more of the following parts is usually the problem.

B18-04-1A (Piston Seal)
BT9M22-00-5 (gas spring)
B22-00-1 (Adjust washer)
B12-00-14 (Breach Seal)

I think all of these parts plus shipping will cost around $20. Well worth the cost IMO to bring the rifle back to like-new factory specs.

You may want to do the tear-down inspection first since it could just be a worn/damaged piston seal (~$2).

If you already have other Crosman/Benjamin break barrels based on the B19 style action, MANY of the parts are interchangeable. Extra replacement parts for the Titan may also be good backup parts to keep on-hand for those other rifles. FWIW, the parts listed above for the Titan are the exact same parts listed for my Benjamin Prowler NP 22.

I had just replaced the breech seal and added 2 shims.
So it is shooting to 650fps now, which I still consider well below specs.........

I'm gonna play with it a bit.

I just ordered the gas spring for my Titan GP last week from Crossman.

They have changed the part number slightly, they added an A to the end of it.

BT9M22-00-5A  I think it was $10.10 plus $4 shipping.  Mine was is much worst shape than yours.
