How can I delete my post?

How can I delete my post in its entirety?

In Editing Posts appearing under Important Topics above, it says GTA doesn't want posters deleting the entire contents of their posts for various reasons.

Recently I responded in length to a query about cantilever scope rings only to realize afterwards the poster was asking about 30mm scope rings and the information I provided regarded 1 inch scope rings.  I looked foolish and my response was a waste of everyone's time to read.

Since I could not figure out how to delete the entire post I went back in and modified it by deleting the content, then writing (deleted) and saving.

It would have been better to just remove my entire post like it never happened.

Chris, by now, I should know just about everything!  But even I sometimes look foolish.  Okay often look foolish.
Just let it go.  In a week, no one will remember.

That is the best approach other than to ask an admin to remove it.
The reason members are not able to delete posts is to not allow them to muddle the integrity of a thread. Believe it or not...  we have had disgruntled members try to delete all of their posts before leaving the forum. Obviously, this would leave large holes in the flow of information within the thread.
When a member posts a reply they only have a small window of time to modify that reply before it becomes permanent. At that point, only a mod can modify and only an admin can completely delete.

My thoughts.....don't give it a second thought. We all do similar from time to time...or at least a good MANY of us do. No harm done.

Yep, just recently happened that a certain moderator may or may not have called me out for being confusing (in my defense I was trying not to be confusing by using manufacturer's terms  ). I could have asked for my post to be removed, but I figured mea culpa and let it stand. Anyone who read the whole series of threads involved would probably be confused anyway but few people bother, so I wouldn't let it worry you.

Chris, nothing wrong with editing your posts later once you realized you mistake.
We all do it on occasion.
