Reseal Kits
«
on:

After spending a couple of days researching reseal kits, for my 62? Dan, with no serial #, hold down safety.
I have found several different type and price ranges, that range from $12 up thru $50,
these kits have different components, with the biggest difference being that of the seal types.
There is "O" ring and lead seals types............... with springs or without
Which would be the best option for my Dan, as I don't have the foggiest notion?
A couple of the kits also come with the valve tool.......
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

If you don’t have it you will need the valve tool.

yep you need the tool
in the UK i do a seal only kit for £2.75 (poly inlet to fit the carrier oring for valve ptfe seal for locking nut and a probe seal)
i'd not replace the spring unless it needed to be and the stem can be replaced with a discovery -as2250 or a 22xx one with the pin cut off provided it has the sheridan valve spring in
i would also get a new piston cup

You can usually reuse the original lead seals and springs. You will definitely want to replace the exhaust poppet, check valve, and pump cup.
If your '62 has an adjustable pump rod, you may need an adapter to fit the new style pump cups. My '60 needed one.
Have fun!

Thanks Guys
I plan on getting the valve tool, or making it as I have the means to do so,
I have the proper tap coming for the 9/32 x 32" tpi etc.

Yes, my Dan has a adjustable nut pump rod, FIRR, there is a nut on each end.........
can you provide some more info on this pump cap adapter needed/where to find etc?
I have not found any info on or about it so far.
Thanks,
Don

The old pump cups were molded into the piston cap and not replaceable separately. Now you can get a replacement cap that takes the modern cups.
I recently bought them from Precision Pellet. I may have bought them from Mike Baker in the past but I can't remember for sure.

You will also need a 1/8" nut driver , or make your own, to remove the lug screw on the bolt.
Make your own lug screw tool at 1:30 in this video.

Watch the exhaust poppet diameter, (7/16?), as I have found some to be oversized where they get stuck. Had to reduce the o.d. by .002 to .003”. Mac1 has good kits

The other thing you may run into, more often with Benji's but sometimes with the Dans, is the exhaust spring is sized for a smaller nipple on the exhaust valve stem, which nobody sells anymore. So you might be able to re-use the old spring, but to be sure I'd suggest a new one. Just my $0.02.
The names mentioned in this thread are all pretty responsive. You can call and they'll help get you the right stuff the first time.

Mac1 also sells a stainless steel piston head adapter cap for the threaded piston rod. It comes with a new pump cup installed and sells for $15 on his rebuild parts list online.
