Advice on high power pcp in .25 cal that shoots slugs
«

I am in search of a high power pcp that can shoot slugs accurately out to about 200 yds. Currently my marauder in .22 can reach 200yds on a real calm day with 58 MOA adjustment. By the time the jsb's get there the energy is so low and the wind affects it so much that it's useless. I think something in .25 cal would be best since dies and cast slugs are plentiful. Ideally something with a pretty high shot count ~30 per charge.
I have thought about the Air Force line but it seems a lot has to be done for them to shoot sub MOA. Huben k1 second version would be cool but I don't like the inability to make safe and also I would go through so much lead it would be nuts. The fx impact might fit the bill if it weren't so durn much and if the barrel can shoot slugs well. Airarmshuntingsa did a review with Nielsen specialty ammo slugs and I liked it. At $2k for the gun that's a little much. Is there something that shoots slugs well for ~$1k?
Thanks.

You might want to contact Huben to see if thier slugs are available?

30 shots at 200 yards may be a little much to ask for.

30 shots is possible with a bottle gun I think. I've considered converting my marauder to a bottle gun with a 500cc 4500 bottle. Some conversions I have seen I like, others, not so much. I like the bottle placement on the fx crown because of the fit and finish. The huben has a very high pressure tube which helps with shot counts but semi auto without a way to decock it is something that's a no go for me.

There is NO issue with the AF platform shooting under 1 MOA at 100 yards. Mine, with a .257 bbl will shoot under 1/2 at that range. However, you are not gong to get 30+ shots with any slug gun at decent fpe.

Knifemaker, what model do you have? Would a 4500 CF tank with regulator get you to about 30 shots? 20-25 shots would do if the accuracy is there and the power is there as well. I mostly hunt birds, but they've learned to stay about 150+ yds away. Lots of starlings that land in the fields decimating the small seeds and bugs that game birds also eat, but .22 pellets just don't make clean kills at that range. I love the look of the FX Crown. They are claiming ~100 shots at 900 fps in the .25 cal. Too many choices.

A buddy and I shot a ton at 200+ yards last year. He shoots a .25 Cricket and a .25 Wildcat for me. We are pretty much tip for tap when shooting pellets however when he loads up Ratsnipers slugs over 100 yards I get left in the dust. If your a bullpup guy I would lean twards a Cricket however for the cost it's really hard to beat an Airforce if you don't mind a little tweak and tune. My Wildcat hates slugs and I feel that's why there is a smoothtwist x.

My AF is a old (Bought New back in 2007) converted t0 .25 and then to .257. It has a 4500psi carbon tank and no reg. Dyotat can build a plenum for it, but without a custom plenum, a reg will not work shooting heavy bullets. 80-84 gr in mine.
With the R&L valve I can get 20 shots, with Dyothat valve, closer to 6.
R&L 139 fpe, Dyotat Valve 180+ fpe. and is deadly out several hundred yards on game.

My Cricket has been my go to gun for a long time and I shoot slugs through it almost exclusive. Very accurate and plenty of power and like 25 shots with it cranked up to 65 fpe.
Here is a video of my coyote kill with my 39 grain Nielsen Specialty Ammo slug. Hollow point swage slug, I will put a link to the slug too.

Your asking for a MOA at 200 yards. That's a tall order for any air rifle. I would opt for a .17 Mach 2 or even a .17 hmr. You can catch them on sale all the time at Academy.

Old topic, I see....
I have the impact x in. 25. With the slug liner, I'm getting over 2 magazines (56 shots) at 935 FPS with Nielson 29.5 grain hollow points.
Love it!!!!
