Dunno, but after seeing how bad his groups are, I think either he's been doing intravenous caffeine or he's shooting using just his feet.  I can shoot nickel-sized groups or better with literally every pellet I own in .177 except Piranhas and Destroyers.  Four pellets are single-hole, 14 are dime-sized groups.

I was a bit surprised, too. 🤔

What would you say is the range at which to expect the nickel- and dime-sized groups? (that's rested, with scope, right?)

I'm not saying it can't shine as a .22, but I feel the greatest virtues are more profound in .177.

Maybe you can enlighten me about the caliber.

My pistol came in .22, but I was able to secure a couple of barrels from WesBob, .177 and .22, as they were so dang cheap.


So, I'm kind of at the crossroads. What are the advantages of .177 over .22 for the PP700?
How do I do the conversion from .22 to .177?

I have no idea why .177 would trump the .22 in the pp700. Mine will print one hole at 30 yards even with the lowly Crosman wally world .22's.


Check out these targets. 1,000 scorpions killed for last summer all night hunting with black light attached to the pistol. Only had it for part of the summer. Rest were shot with a Smith & Wesson 79 co2   pistol.


I will include a long range target here. The Ram is Between 75 and 80 yards. two touching, one to the left. Shot using a reflex site with huge holdover.


It shoots cast slugs at 29 gr, .216 dia. just as well.

Matthias, I've stuck only with my stock/factory .177 barrel.  It shoots like Knife's.

I usually had a cheap 3-9x32 Optima scope, but have tried some better glass, too.  No matter how good the glass was, gun kept up with the glass and outshot my ability.  The groups were very consistent and SMALL.  Beeman Silver Arrows are amazingly the most accurate pellet in mine.  Baffling since they're pointed.  I've taken shots at tree-rats at just shy of 40 yards- 1 dot holdover at 9x @ ~ 14 FPE and put the pellet directly where I aimed- the eyesocket.  Mine also shoot exemplary with a bunch of other pelts, but like all SPA guns, it really fovors heavier pellets.  JSB Ultra Shocks, Skenco Ultrashocks, Skenco Newboys, Coal Fenix domes, CPUP  of course, JSB Exact Heavies.  Sniper Mags are especially good and I suspect th most accurate once I go past 40 yards, just never shot my PP700 over that except 5 shots with the Sniper Mags at measured 45 yards- at a tennis ball.  Every shot a hit.  At 30 yards I expect a good pistol shooter to shoot nickel-sized groups.  Quarter at most.  I can shoot dime-sized groups with 3 pellets at 30 consistently (Sniper Mags, JSB Exact Heavies and Beeman Silver Arrows- the Ultra Shocks destabilize sadly.  Maybe slow 'em down?) but I've stuffed A LOT of pellets into the breech.  Over 18k.  And I built up some arm muscle from all this handpumping

SPA cuts good rifling.  As long as the crown and last inch or so of the barrel are damage-free, I guarantee those barrels will likely shoot as good as you're capable of.  Incidentally, I ordered the PP750 repeater in .22.  Hopefully it has a similar barrel- though I may try to tune for heavyweight wadcutters- in particular the H&Ns.


Advantages of .177 versus .22 in this tiny platform?  More speed.  I suspect the .22 is more efficient; tends to be that way and that's fine.  Main reason I opted for .177 when I bought mine over 3 years ago?  Krale was out of .22 and I just so happened to have 18 different .177 pellets on hand.  It was almost comical while testing- several pellets shot such tight groups I thought I was missing the 8x8 target entirely.  Personally, I prefer .22 because they are physically easier to handle.  Um, otherwise?  You usually get more pellets for the same money in .177 versus .22.  That combination you describe should be potent for vermin (rats and mice, bunnies).  For squirrel-sized critters I'd crank up the reg and HST but you'll lose some accuracy on some pellets.  Prolly gain it on others, though   Sniper Mags seem to like moving about 800-880 FPS.  I get good accuracy at a sedate 640 but I know they can do better moving faster.

I just need to find some kind of machine shop that will put a screw into my barrel so it won't be turning when I screw/unscrew the silencer.... Otherwise my POI changes by 4" at 10y....  Catastrophic!

Unfortunately, there are very few light HP's, and there are hardly any wadcutters in .22 (it's just not the 10m target caliber...).

However, if you can hold on to your horses, the PP750 is coming out in a couple of months — multishot!, with integrated telescoping stock.  Might be worth the wait, I hear it isn't that much more expensive than the PP700. 😊

Mine in .22 has killed many, many rats. On my home range I can consistently hit cans out to 70 yards. It is a dandy, mine is shooting 14.3 Crosman Premiers at an average of 670 FPS for 14 FPE. I’m going to attempt to slow it down to 500 FPS for about 8 FPE. So that I can use it for roosting sparrows.
