TX 200 Quality

After reading most of the TX200 posts, it appears their was a period when quality slipped. Can anyone provide a time line when this occurred?
I just purchased a 2013 built gun & I wondering what issues I should look for.

If it' still got the factory lube it's probably a light brown oily substance.  Clean the gun internally and lubricate it properly.  Your piston seal may be getting tired and your spring, too.  That's really about it, it should be a fine gun.  If you remove the stock use extreme care not to break the front stock mount bracket.  It's a bit on the wimpy side.  Pick up a spare cocking shoe.  At some point you'll need it.  If you dismantle the gun polish both spring ends.  It will go a long way toward eliminating twang.  Enjoy the gun.  It should be a good one.

I bought my TX200 in November of 2018, no problems observed, however I used the Tom Gaylord method of barrel cleaning before shooting it. That is, JB Bore Cleaner on a brass brush 20 times each way on a Dewey nylon coated rod. Then Hoppes #9 on a mop, Ballistol on a mop, followed by dry patches.

Problems with rust in the bore were reported from late 2018 to early 2019. Pyramyd Air pulled their inventory at that time until they received a new shipment in early spring of 2019.

I don't have any idea if any other retailers did the same. I purchased my rifle from PA. If it also had that issue, I'll never know. It has always shot very accurately. If the bore was indeed rusty, I'll have to assume that the brush and JB handled it. I don't recall whether the was any oxide residue on the brush and mops or not.

I've only done a coupla three, but I use wet/dry sandpaper on a block, working from 320 grit up to 1000-2000.  However, on the next one, I'll use a bench mounted belt sander, same grits, depending upon availability.  The hand method works fine, but I discovered I actually owned a belt sander, so...lazy works!

I have done a bunch of springs and do mine by hand.  I stand them perpendicular and start sanding with wet/dry, with no lubes.  They turn out nice.  One area I focus on is the actual end, and spread it with a drywall anchor.  I knock down the edge and both corners.  If you look close below you will see.  These aren't TX springs, but you will get the idea.  The TX springs have been reported in the past to break off one of these corners and it will find it's way around in your action and have fun doing some damage.  I address mine with a dremel with a small cut off wheel, surgically.

Is it possible to adversely affect the temper of the spring by using belt sanders and dremels?

My pre owned Tx 200, vintage 2013 rifle arrived in mint condition with only less than a tin of pellets shot thru it. I am in the process of shooting it to complete break in. Next steps are trigger tune, spring polish & re lube.

Excessive heat will yes, especially on the last coil.
