Beeman P17 & White Lithium Grease

I have a couple of P17's. Some get white lithium grease as per manufacturers recommendations & others get Pellgun Oil. The P17's with the white lithium grease, the piston is always black. It seems like the grease deteriorates the black Oring while the Pellgun oil is nice & clean. Can anybody confirm my findings?

I can't confirm or deny anything buy you may wish to clean things up real well and try Krytox.  It has no petroleum component at all and should not destroy your O rings.  It's a PTFE compound similar to Teflon.

Nor can I confirm or deny, but when my first P17 was apart over a year ago to check for cylinder burr at air intake (none), I reassembled with white lithium grease as per mfgr suggestion.   Still functional.

the black is actually  aluminum oxide from the piston.

Hi Dennis, I believe that Rob is correct... it's aluminum oxide.
And I don't think that grease is the best piston lube for ssp's (or msp's). You want the lube to be able to carry the contaminants thru the gun with the air flow.
Grease will stay put and trap the gunk... and get in the valve and will be "gunk in the valve".
30wt or better yet, 20wt will move thru the valve and take particulates, oxides, etc. with it. The oil will also disperse to coat the piston and slow-down the oxidizing of the aluminum.

I believe in using oil so much that I modified a P17 piston to what the FAS 6004 and the HW75 do... use a felt oiler for the lubrication...

I am using the silicone oil that came with my Nova Freedom on the piston.   So far so good, but I haven't had these P17s very long either...

I prefer the oil to the Lithium grease myself. The oil wipe is a great idea.  Thanks Guys.

I used the  white lithium grease as the manual suggested, worked fine. After many shots an o-ring gave out in the valve. When I reassembled everything I coated everything with Super Lube. Been going strong ever since. My belief is just so it is lubed, not what you lube it with.
