I haven't got a bore snake yet to investigate. Any known culprits? Safest way to attack problem. Tips to avoid pitfalls?

Danny, the first place I would look is the magazines. Especially the star and front cover. I have found many times there are sharp when produced. I like to take a counter sink, (Fine abrasive paper is fine) and break each edge, front and back of the star, and the front cover especially.
Check the very entrance fo the breech for sharpness as well.

Get some polyurethane o-rings in the correct size for replacement. They will last much longer.

On the same lines as Knife, are you using any Mrod mags? The revolver in them, does have a much sharper edge than the gauntlet ones. I only use gauntlet mags in my Liberty's which have the same O-ring on probe design.

+1 for the polly o rings. Try to get them in durometer of 90.
The o ring store is a good place Mcmaster carr for industrial quality, in large bags at a low cost but high shipping. BUT very very fast shipping!

Thanks, guys. What size PE o-ring should I order for the .25. While I'm at it what size for the .177.
FYI, I'm using the stock Umarex mags but I'll definitely try cleaning up the leading edges of those mags.

Hey Danny, didn't realise were neighbors!
Maybe someone will chime in with the correct size. Seems like Umarex has weird sizes on there bolt probes.
Here's a rebuild kit including probe orings for all three calibers. It may be worth contacting him to see if you can get urethane ones.

Another thing to look at is the barrel breech not being polished. The edge is so sharp iit will quickly thrash a pellet probe o-ring.
Below are a couple of photos I made a couple years ago which were to help illlustrate what some of the steps required for transfer port and lead in work. This photo series was before final fine polishing.
Hope this offers you some value.

Thanks, guys. I worked on the magazine. I suspect it is more likely due to the sharp edges on the breech as Haj suggests so that is the next step. Also, I realized the o-rings I grabbed were a little soft. Will swap those out after polishing the breech.

I take back what I said about magazine not being the issue. The clear cover appears to push the probe upward which then can cause it to shave the o-rings as it goes past the magazine exit hole or into the breech.
Here are pics of the mag before and after opening up the pellet slot in the cover.
Also added a notch under the cover at the first pellet loading position. This ensures it stays open and centered over that first position.
