First time Big Cat .22 owner

I wanted to introduce myself to everyone and I am glad that I found this site.

I recently won a BC .22 at a local gun show and started shooting it this afternoon.

As many know, the trigger is pretty bad and the PBA ammo that Gamo is pimping is pretty horrific stuff!

I bought a tin of Benjamin Discovery 14.3 in their holow point version and the gun really turned around for me at 25yds.

I couldnt get the PBA to group for the life of me and the one thing that stood out to me most is that the harder a pellet goes in, typically the more accurate the shot. The Gamo stuff, about every 3rd pellet wanted to fall out.

The scope that was provided does an OK job, but it will be the first upgrade as well as a the IV trigger that i have spent the past 2 hours reading about.

I did have one question for the forum: I live in new orleans and I own several firearms, but I cant seem to keep the surface rust off of this gun...any suggetions?

As for the surface rust, I think I read in one of the threads on this forum, to wax the barrel (and I'm assuming other exposed steel surfaces) to prevent rust. I know that in your local climate, that can be a real problem. Good luck, and I'm sure someone who knows much more than I will be along soon to answer your questions.

Welcome to the GTA .  .22 BC? I've yet to see one in person.  The CDT trigger will help increase your enjoyment of the BC.
And surface rust on shooters? The only thing that works for me is to wipe them down at least on a monthly basis. And run a patch through the barrel at the same time.  I lived on the beach in FLA, so I know the rust problems you face.

Silica Bags in the gun safe helps, but I too would keep them well coated with lube that inhibits or prevents rust.

Yeah, the 22cal with Benjy Discovery is pretty ruthless on pigeons at about 30 yds. I have shot thousands of rounds through "powder burners" and was thouroughly impressed with the results of the big cat

What should I clean the barrel with? I have read about running a patch with a little goo-gone?

Welcome to GTA, very nice to have you with us. 

Clean the barrel of the BC with "Goo-Gone" using a weed whacker line as a pull through.  Once clean don't clean it again until accuracy starts to suffer. 

Get the replacement trigger, it's the best money you can spend on the rifle.  You'll wonder how you ever got along without it. 

As for rust..... my climate isn't particularly wet or humid but I routinely wipe down all my rifles with an old silicone gun cloth sprayed liberally with "Ballistol".  The stuff is amazing.  It brings out the deep color and shine of the metal/bluing like nothing else I've used,,,, also cleans and shines wooden stocks amazing.  I've never had any rust problems at all since I started using the Ballistol.

Welcome to the GTA and congrats on winning the BC. Stop shooting the PBA ammo. These pellets are too light and will ruin your spring. They are ok to shoot in a CO2 rifle or pistol.

I lived on the water i. Nc and had to wipe the guns down about once a week. I jsed remington gun oil.
