As the AG's get hotter and hotter I'd like thoughts on using Sabots with bullets.
Granted I know one would have to watch the barrel for build up of sabot material in said.
I'd also think it must not have a baffle system as that may cause sabot to open early.
Sabot is not the most accurate but may be a viable recourse in some situations.
I have shot Sabot in the past but that was PB's.
Given the new materials available for 3D printing I plan to try Sabots.

Consistent release of the Sabot so as to not cause accuracy issues is the biggest problem, from what I have read.... You also need a twist rate appropriate for the (typically) longer, thinner bullet which the Sabot is launching.... For example, if you are launching a 75 gr. bullet in .224 cal Supersonic, but expect it to drop through Mach 1 during it's flight, the twist rate must stabilize it at 1100 fps.... which might require a 9-10" twist or faster....

I agree Bob.
All the Sabots I have shot? I'd not take a 100 yard shot and expect a bulls eye.
30 or 40 yards? Maybe. But that was before 3D printing and modern materials.
Say I take a .50 cal and Sabot down to .30 or .35 with a well made and tested Sabot?
Could open up a whole new ball Game if proven.

One of the biggest Sabot misconceptions I ever saw was from the Movie Shooter!
No way on Gods Green Earth that shot could happen at that point in time.
Given we can now print in 3D? It comes into the realm of maybe.

Sabot bullets give good performance in shotguns and black powder rifles, so could offer some advantage in big bore air guns. Something along the lines of SST-ML 0.50 form Hornady.
