Help, my NPXL won't cock

Dear Members,
I have a problem. My new NPXL 1500 won't cock at all. It breaks open but won't cock. I took it out of it's stock and the cocking shoe is in the proper place and it has been fine since I got it. But now as I was going to sight it in, I tried to cock it and it was a no go:-( So please help a young shooter.

Hi
Look at the trigger. The latch is there in the trigger.
If you can manage it cock the gun with the stock off you should see the latch as it operates.
try cocking safe off and safe on.

I don't know how that would keep it from cocking unless its stopping the piston from moving all the way back so it doesn't engage the latch? try and cock it out of the stock and see if the piston gos back far enough to engage the latch and if so try readjusting the setting on the trigger, if you have it adjusted to light it wont lock up!

the cocking linkage may be bent to where its not pushing the piston back far enough to latch the trigger finger

If you have GRT III trigger and if you have turned its slotted screw in too far, it may not cock. Be careful.

I opened her back up and noticed this pinhead sized piece of metal that was still attached to the compression chamber. It was like a long gouge that abruptly stopped and in front of that was a 3/8th's of an inch wide scratch mark on the compresion chamber that started just past the end of the piston. Say the piston is all the way at the end of the compression tube near the hole where the air is pushed out. Ok? So, at the back or the bottom of the piston (if the rifle is standing vertical) is where the the 3/8" wide scratch mark started and it went about 2 1/2" inches rearward (toward the trigger area) and then became a pinhead sized metal ball like thing that still was attached to the top of the chamber. I dremeled it so I could take out the piston without scratching it and basically had to debur/lube it...AGAIN..eerrr! I'm going to shoot it now. Thanks goes to everyone who tried to help. I think I know what happened. I needed one of my stock screw holes tapped. I took it to a local hardware guy who did it for me and I am wondering if something got into my chamber at that store which made this terrible situation happen. who knows. Again, everyone, thank you.

well everyone I have adapted and overcame. Eventhough I hated to disassemble it again, but I did. I dremeled, sanded, sanded and sanded some more and it seems like it is 1,000 times better than before. I thought that the initial grinding was just the rifle's needing it's "breaking in" period. She is not picky on pellets either. Eventhough I tried 4 different types of pellets pre-gouge and they all grouped reasonably well with different holds. It all changed again and now I have to shoot them all over again. which is good and bad.

josh3rd, sounds like you solved your problem. That's great news. Hey, i came across this thread regarding a different gun but similar damage...and it rang a bell...thought you should see it even tho it is hopefully totally irrelevant to you. Have fun.
