I hope this is the right place to post. Where can I get a rebuild/tune kit for this rifle FWB 124. This a old rifle my brother has had for ever. The seal finally went out and now he want's to rebuild it.

JM's Air Rifle Headquarters.  He has two kits, the "old school" Arctic and the same kit with, I believe, some guides thrown in.  They run from about $70 - $90.  Think they also come with lubes, but I would order a small lube kit while I was at it, since he has minimum shipping.  Maybe another seal (Mongoose seal?).  Just about THE BEST FWB124 rebuild kit anywhere.  Do be very careful removing the spring.  The factory spring is long and that thin sheetmetal safety slide on the rear is easily bent.  Parts are quite dear for these since no one want to cannibalize them.  A thorough search on tunes plus a couple questions if you're unsure pays off.  I would not adopt Tom Gaylord's approach as shown in his blog where he simply folds up some cardboard to pad the safety.  Better to make a notched piece of wood, etc.  Remember Murphy's Law - "If something can go wrong, it will."  Good luck.  Fine guns, those.  I'm going to have to rebuild mine one of these days.

The factory piston seal in those guns turns to wax and gets stuck in the bottom of the tube. I plug the transfer port with a cotton swab and pour some acetone into the tube to release the old piston seal from the bottom and side of the tube. I usually soak it for about an hour or more.
After that, pour out the acetone and use a long wooden dowel with a 45 degree angle cut on the end of it to scrape the old seal off the sides of the tube. Don't use a screwdriver or anything hard that will damage the tube.
It takes a long time depending on how much of the old piston seal broke off and how long it's been in there. Just go slowly and make sure you have it all out before you go ahead with the rebuild.
Just dig the base of the old piston seal out of the piston with a small screwdriver.
Here's a tip on the new Maccari piston seal... I don't alter the leading edge of the seal but I add more taper to the sides of it to reduce drag. You can pick up an extra 50 fps doing this and still keep the premium sealing qualities of the Mongoose piston seal.

This may be a bit too basic but tell him not to shoot the gun until the seal has been replaced.  I had to buy mine without testing at a local gun shop.  It only took two attempts to determine the seal was shot.  And, yes, they do turn to some kind of crumbling waxing substance which will extrude out of the transfer port.
