Walnut Display Case

I purchased a Walnut display case at one of my flintknapping - arrowhead shows years ago.  It was hand made by a guy there, dated 2001, just loved the craftsmanship but never really had a use for it.  It just didn’t work well with my arrowheads.  So years later I dig it out and it works wonderfully as a display case for my prewar blued milled steel, German air pistols.  My German collection is now complete with the two I added last month from the RIAC auction. I think we can tend to collect cool things but store them out of the way so we can’t enjoy them.  Only took 18 years to find the perfect use for this.

Now where to put it? I'd like one of those old glass-n-wood cases like they used for the candy counter in the small mom-n-pop stores when I was a kid. Perfect for displaying ,y vintage pullet and pellet tin collection.

And off topic, sometime, I'd love to hear how you got involved in flintknapping. I have close friends who are knappers and you may know them, or at least be aware of them.Cool hobby!

Major flint deposits in Ohio bought some hunting land 20 years ago with some on it and learned from others at events.  Your friends probably know of the Flint Ringe Knappin in Ohio biggest flintknapping event in the Country.

Not now lol.  Latest is making a mobile out of the point and the chips.

I will tell you guys, in case you don't know......regular and frequent flint-knapping can cause a serious case of respiratory problems from silicosis. I knew J Sollenberger, and he had to deal with  it. I also took care of  a patient in the hospital a few years ago, who'd developed a bad case of it from years of flintknapping. Wear a good mask and stay in a well-ventilated area.

True, I never knapp indoors so for me it’s not a winter activity.

What a great way to display that fine collection Steve! Is it possible to secure the guns & mount it on a wall? Not sure if you want those out in the open but what a statement & conversation piece those would make.

Interesting part of the case is it is really meant for display only.  Below he has fashion a narrow door with a thumb hole and ball bearing catch to open it.  I’m taking it to my Airgun Show next month as my “not for sale” display of my most interesting but valuable guns. Given how difficult it would be for someone to grab one I can walk away from my table with a lot less fear.
