A quick review of the PP800R

I recently purchased a PP800R from Airgun Archery Fun. It was configured to have the full BuckRail foregrip, pistol grip, and a folding shoulder stock. It is yet another "pisfle"!

The barrel took a lot of patches to clean, I don't think I remember another airgun that required this much cleaning. After cleaning the barrel, the crown was touched up a little bit using a rubber polishing tip on a Dremel, then I used a little bit of 400 grit carbide grit mixed in Balistol to finish the job (push a little bit in the muzzle with a swab, then "fire lap" with a few lead-free pellets.

A fixed magnification 6x BugBuster scope was mounted on the rear dovetail rail using an UTG offset mount, and off we go to shoot the little airgun!

The regulator did an exceptional job to get very consistent muzzle velocity. The regulator arrived configured a little too hot (probably at 120 bars). Tuning that down to 100 bars results in muzzle velocity of about 570 fps using JSB 10.34 pellets. Like HUMA regulators, turn the screw clockwise to reduce regulated pressure. Since there was no scale (wouldn't be visible anyway), I had to use the trial-and-error method to find where 100 bars was.

The trigger is configurable. The factory shear spring is a little on the heavy side, and the grub screws were too short. I have ordered some longer grub screws with ball bearing tips, that should help with fine tuning the trigger. As it is now, it is probably a 2-3 pound pull, but it does break predictably with no noticeable creep.

The factory moderator was shipped from California, but it arrived after the airgun shipped from Canada! In the factory configuration, there was a good bark even with the moderator installed. Rearranging the spacers seemed to reduce the bark significantly (no I did not measure).

So how does the little pisfle shoot?

Not as good as a Daystate Mk3, but at least as good as a Brocock Ranger XR! This is despite the 2-3 pound trigger, the short length (it is shorter than the Ranger), and the diminutive weight (much lighter than the Ranger).

Bag rested, the PP800R can *almost* shoot JSB 10.34 gr pellet through the same initial hole at 10 yards. Because the cross hair of the scope is too think, I had to draw a 0.25" circle, and just the scope so the POI is off from the POA. In a sense, this is almost ridiculous.

Running from 200 down to 100 bars, I get about 11 to 12 consistent shots. Not great. However, considering the size of the airtube, and how much volume is taken by the regulator+plenum, the shot count is actually not bad!

Compared to a proper rifle, this little pisfle is not the best deal. For the same $$$, one can probably find a regulated PCP with better shot count and a bit more muzzle energy. However, this pisfle performs surprisingly well with a total weight of 4 pounds, and a folded length of 15".
