.25 NOE Pellet Mold

As many of you know, I had accuracy issues with the pellets from this mold.
Well, for grins I decided to test the pellets in the Hammer Forged barrel. It is a .257 barrel and didn't have high hopes. Making matters even more difficult, it is a 1-14 twist. (As is the RainStorm barrel)
The Rainstorm factory barrel is a laser with both 24 and 34 gr .25's. Very impressive! However, the NOE pellets simply would not shoot well consistently.
I had very low hopes for the TJ barrel, as the pellets were bore riding on the head, with very little engagement.
Woha! First 10 shot group way less than 3/4" at 50 yards. Not one flier. None!
Shot a steel plate at 80 yards and was ato about 1 1/2". NOT NOE 34 accurate, but very respectable. Really odd thing is I tried both sizes of JSB's in the TJ and Nope, Terrible!!!
Just goes to show you, you never know. (I have another TJ .257 in the Talon/Dor and it shoots the JSB's very well). GRRRRR!!! LOL!
Well, the best part of all this is that the NOE's are virtually free as I reclaim my lead and cast again. Much of this lead has be recycled many times now.

Micheal
Have you tried different lead type, ie pure lead, WW's, hard lead etc?
It might make a difference for that bbl........

I have been saying that minimal head engagement is not a bad thing with pellets for about as long as I have been here now...I have since learned that barrels seem to follow rules then there will be one that breaks that rule... so yeah it can work that way with minimal engagement in many barrels... but
in the end each barrel like what it likes and then we try to understand why..
I might get better in the future but am very reliably at .75 at 50 yards...stock Mrod 34g NOE... more .5" ish groups than .75"...

best thing is... tis a road not travel much yet...We are the ones to have the belief it can be made to work and put our sometimes meager$ where our mouths said it would work...I do think that there is not as much of a range penalty for the big meplat as I thought... I honestly think Bob with this one once again got all the compromises necessary just right... If your barrel and powerplant likes them I feel they are the best .25 hunting pellet that can be made...
Thanks to Bob and Al(NOE)... and all that share their struggles and successes... Keep on truckin Knife I have had to slow down a bit with winter and some med issues... plus got side tracked with a 129$ Storm .177 to tune... and a 160$ .22 Urban (Kirby's Urby)..
the Urban did digest some reject hard cast 30g BBT .217 very well... need to get some softer .217 cast... they only leave the barrel at 610 fps (did some testing)... right now with .75" OTO at 35 yards that is sure to improve I am happy... they were pretty badly cast and I think the Urban Has 650 fps in it... it will be fun finding out if I am right that they have moa maybe sub moa at 35-45 yards in them even at sub optimal speed...and thru a choked barrel...
gotta admit to enjoying a good grrr here and there myself... helps me let go and meditate on the possible whys...
Hope your Christmas was a good one... I broke my middle toe..
Good thing my oldest daughter knitted me some booties for my feet as a present got them the day after I pulled my klutz move... it was more like mudder effin grrrrrrrrr when I did it... but then the booties came... funny how ya get just what ya need sometimes... had to laugh and think to my self about how idiots are taken care of sometimes...My daughter had a good laugh today when I told her about it...

Lol, I Know exactly where you are coming from . We have a couch with a middle leg. It has nailed me more than once.
I found a pair of house shoes made of sheep skin and wool fleece lined at a local thrift store. Un-worn. they were L.L. Bean. I paid a fraction of what they cost at the LL Bean mail order. 80. bucks there. Paid 5-7 bucks.
I had admired them for years. Too much money though.
No more hurt toes. LOL. Would you believe my Aunt sent me a pair for Christmas. Now I have two LL Beans. UnReal! Now what are the odds on that?

This is a 15.66 fragment of a 23 grain .22 Magnum hunter, the rest of the pellet exited out of the back of the squirrels head and this fragment was in the hide on the nap of his neck. At the time I wasn't even aware of the energy that I was doing with my Airmax Dominator but have since checked and they're doing anywhere from 875-900fps. It was a straight on shot at about 35 yards through the skull (his head was all I could see).
I've been hunting with these pellets all winter since I've done a re-tune on it for these pellets and haven't really thought about checking the velocity since and it's definitely changed since I first did the re tune, it's quieter and is delivering quite a bit more energy as well which surprises me. The gun is only making a pffttt when you shoot it these days and I'm loving it.
Yesterday I shot a squirrel in the top of an oak tree at 50 yards with it, wow what a smack it made and it's always neat watching a big fox squirrel fall from that height, not a lot of flopping around from what I could tell but it was a heart lung shot (right where I was aiming) and a lot of bright red blood.
