QB -vs- Gauntlet

Guys
From what I have been reading here, the Gauntlet is a refined QB.
Which Air Rifle would be next in line, if a Gauntlet can not be found,
Chief or some other brand/type, in the bottom end of the price line, $250 or less, possible?
I don't mind the modding aspects etc.
I want a mag fed, 17 caliber and the possibility to convert to PCP and Co2 fuel types.
Your thoughts or suggestions?
Tia,
Don

Neither the QB nor the Chief are repeaters, nor is the Disco.... Different platform, but possibly the new Fortitude when it comes out?.... I assume your problem with the Gauntlet is availability in Canada?.... I'd like to play with one too, were it not for that.... but not in .177.... I prefer .25 cal, but have serious doubts if the plenum in the Gauntlet .25 will be big enough.... which pretty much means I would be stuck with .22 cal.... and I have enough of those already....

AHHHHHHHHH Bob, we have a problem Huston,
"I assume your problem with the Gauntlet is availability in Canada?".......
O great wise one, I know you have the force with you etc, would you mind putting me back in NV,
I don't think, I could fit in in Canada and it gun laws, I am kinda a lone rider and use to doing for myself.
I do plan to visit one of these days, then return home, I hope, but I don't have a passport to travel with.
I don't think we could be neighbors, as you would be corrupting me, with all your knowledge etc,
with all the modding experience you provide, and I wouldn't have any time to visit your great area,
and I would be like Dennis the Menses and MR WIlson, aka Bob. ROTHFLMAO, LOL
It was a fun trip, but I didn't see much, as it was a very quick trip, blink of the eye type,
and I am hurting too much to enjoy it, at this time...........
Thank you,
Don in NV.

Go with the Gauntlet.
It is a better gun and you already have a PCP air supply.
I own both the Gauntlet and a QB78 in .177.
The Gauntlet is a much more accurate and better gun.
PCP is MUCH better than CO2 and if you are already set up for compressed air, it is no contest.

You might check out Tom Gaylord's blog review of the QB Chief. Worth a read.

If I were in your shoes I would go Gauntlet. Knowledge and many parts interchange between the 2 platforms.
However, the SPA sidelever repeaters are very attractive to me. I really like the M16 and P15....The only problem is that means I would have to start all over collecting orings/valves/spare fasteners/etc to support my tuning efforts

I want a mag fed, 17 caliber and the possibility to convert to PCP and Co2 fuel types.
The exact same reason I went with a Gauntlet (except I wanted .22)!
I just spent the last week shooting the tar out of my new Gauntlet... on CO2. I'm extremely pleased and I highly recommend it. FWIW, I bought two 12 oz CO2 bottles and filled them at Dicks - they fit perfectly with no mods at all (except removing the forend of course). It only costs $3.50 to fill a 12 oz bottle, and I got over 500 shots out from one (don't have an exact count - but it was probably closer to 600). I was worried about the 'power' of CO2 vs. HPA, but it did NOT disappoint! I don't have a chronograph, but I would not hesitate at all using it (with headshots) on rabbits or squirrels. The temperature was over 90, however - not sure how it'll do when it's cooler out. After I found the right pellets (mine likes 16g Air Arms), it was a laser beam well out to 60-ish yards. I was popping targets at that range my buddy couldn't even THINK about hitting with his (admitedly-much-less-expensive) springer (the 16x scope sure helped too!)
.
Anyway, just saying if you want a repeater that can use CO2, you won't be disappointed with the Gauntlet.

Have often though that a Gauntlet would make a nice co2 tanker...kind of the opposite direction from current trends, but didn't seen anything about the rifle that would make that a problem. Doubt it would be real powerful or that it would be well tuned for co2, but all that happy-whappy stuff can be adjusted.

Once you introduce CO2, make sure you have spare orings on hand prior to removing the valve or tank block. Unlike HPA, CO2 causes orings to swell. Sometimes the orings are fine, other times they are swolen/stretched to a point that they can't be reassembled....
12oz co2 tanks make for super long shooting sessions, but there are "fleas that come with the dog."

Thanks Guys
I am not too worried about Co2 at this time as I still have over 50+ 90gram filled cylinders,
and with the off/on shutoff valve, I can stop shooting whenever and with a quick turn on and be back in the game.
I have been using one of my Ham 850, 17 cals, on Co2, while LL is down on the bench for rebuild and T&A etc.
Just about ready to button up LL for new test with the 81cc plenum.
I have been reading on several models,
Gauntlet, Dynamic etc, it must be 17 cal, mag fed, and I am not sure about the side lever trick,
never seen/held one, so don't know in that issue.
Tia,
Don

For what it’s worth, I couldn’t be happier with my completely stock gauntlet. In fact, two other guys that I shoot with just bought gauntlets and theirs are even more accurate (slightly) than mine. All three are.22 though. I’ve never shot a .17 I got one of the early ones and I think the quality control may have improved. Last night, a 92 year old guy was dusting aspirin tablets with mine and he couldn’t stop smiling.
