Cleaning a rubber butt pad

  I installed a Pachmayr rubber butt pad on my D34 back in February and now it's starting to leave black marks on my shirts. What's the best way to remedy this problem? I tried using an Armor All cleaning wipe but that didn't work.

I had the same problem on my 22cal Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 rifle.   I cut a strip of black duct tape and covered the rear of the butt pad . Problem solved and no more black marks on white tee shirts.           Best Wishes  -  Tom

I'd contact Pachmayr. Sounds like the rubber it breaking down.

Duct tape in proximity to cloth has always ended up a goopy mess for me, particularly when it's warm. YMMV

Are you setting the butt on something abrasive, when you cock it? Even a wood picnic bench would be abrasive enough to scuff up some of the rubber.

  No, I cock the gun with the butt against my thigh. Don't see any discoloration on my pants though. Here's what I'm getting on my shirts.

  Put some 303 Aerospace Protectant that I use on my vinyl siding on the butt pad. Went out and shot 30 rounds, no marks on shirt so far. I also read that Krytox lubricant that I use on my piston seal is excellent on rubber. If the 303 doesn't last I'll give that a try.

When I rebuilt/cleaned up my buddy Ken's NPXL1100, I used B/C Cleaner degreaser and Qtips to clean the butt pad. Then wiped it down with Rem-Oil, let it soak a lil bit, then wiped it off and let dry. Worked like a charm with that Teflon lube in the oil.
