Interesting progress.... Here's hoping your 50 yd. POI is smaller than "minute of Chrony".... and that the sabots don't make it that far....

Do you have a Lexan shield for the Chrony sensors?....

I will donate a chronograph for the testing and it’s a second back up so no return needed and if you kill it with a sabot no worries it’s all part of the learning

The valve now appears to be leak-free, after replacing the 3 internal and 2 external o-rings, and lapping the poppet into the seat...... again. That is one drawback of these balanced valves: they all have at least one dynamic o-ring seal, and definitely more o-rings than a conventional valve. Plus the balanced poppet doesn't seat with as many pounds of force as a conventional valve, so leaks at the seat can be more likely at low pressures.

On the more domestic side, the wife came to me with an icky wadded up paper towel this morning and asked, "I just cleaned this barf up from the cat.  Looks really strange, what do you think it is? And she's got all this black stuff on the top of her head again. Wonder where she got THAT?"

Well, a true "shop cat." Dandelion had gotten up on the lathe and eaten a long spiral of UHMW (poor man's Teflon) and wiped the black oil off the bottom of the lead screw with her head. Gotta love 'em, cause I guess the poor thing does ok considering how tiny her little cat brain is, LOL.

That is just the reason why I don't let our cats in the shop. There are stuff that I don't want to be played by cats. Or the cats to be played by the machines.

I guess I’m kinda late getting to this thread and didn’t have much to add other than about 10 years ago i researched flying rings a bit after talking to Bigbore Bob Dean about his idea of shooting 20mm rings .
 So i turned out a .568 hollow brass bullet about an 1” Long with the short taper in the front and long taper in the back to shoot out of my .58 sidelever .   
I made a Teflon driving plug to put behind it .  Unfortunately i didn’t chrono it but since the gun shoots round balls into the low 900’s it probably was close to supersonic.    I took aim at a 2 liter bottle full of water 50 yards away an punched a hole clear through it and it made a screaming sound as it went across the field behind it .   
Interesting test but too labor intensive to make the dang things .

Same thing here. I would have pursued more testing if it wasnt such a time consuming challenge. I shot several threw my target paper and had the same reaction it went clipping threw tree branches way out into the woods.
