Prowler groups

I am an almost total neophyte regarding air guns so bear with me.  When you are shooting groups and you actually end up with two fairly small groups, that are separated by maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch, is this indicative of any one problem? 

Is this a pellet problem, a shooting technique problem or just the way it happens some times?

If you consistently have that issue. It will either be the pellets, or the hold.

Springers can be hold sensitive, because the pellet is still in the barrel, when the rifle begins to move from recoil. If you hold the rifle different between shots, the recoil will move the rifle and point the barrel towards a different spot as the pellets exits, causing multiple POIs. Pay very close attention to your hold. Make sure you hold the rifle the exact same, and both hands and your cheek touch the rifle the same every time. Try this next time you shoot. And remember your results.

Also. Lower quality pellets generally have worse quality control. Most rifles, this will show. If you have some pellets that fit tight and some that fit loose. They will act different in the rifling. Which can also cause the issue you are having.

100% agree with pellet consistency and hold. But also a repeatable position behind the scope can effect impacts.  Unlike a normal rifle where you can manipulate the bolt without breaking position and cheek weld, with a break barrel rifle you have to rebuild your position after every shot due to the loading process.  Even having your cheek weld or eye alignment off just a bit from your previous shot can cause your shots to wonder.  It's one of the things I like best about break barrels, is it forces you to constantly work on your form consistency and good habits.

After considering all the other suggestions, it can also be the scope itself moving around internally.  It can also be an inconsistent trigger pull - like off to one side.  Always be sure to pull straight back.

I'm finding it extremely difficult to actually pin down where the problem might be.  With the cheaper Chinese guns it may just be an accumulation of all the tolerances being all off in the wrong direction.  Add in the effort to find the right pellet too and you have the makings of a nightmare. 

One thing that really doesn't help is I haven't seen any evidence of an over travel adjustment on the triggers.

An rws 34 should be arriving today and then research will continue.
