An old 760 and a question or two

Thanks for the advice on fixing the bolt and dealing with the pin-ends! 

I might try the shrink-tubing on the bolt-end first, then cut a groove in it and add an o-ring when I get the time.  Hair?  I miss that...

Thinking that since the two are a combo of parts from more than three different guns, I'll swap all the pretty parts onto the one with the rifled barrel and use the rest for the other.  The darn things are just a lot of fun to shoot!

That's a sweet one!  Unfortunately, it's way beyond my capabilities as a machinist.

I have a 761xl and the plastic block was well worn this was my solution and I fitted an o ring into the tp/barrel housing rather than onto the probe

I got lucky with the NOS 761xl barrel I swapped into the 760v1. Polished up my brass bolt and it fit so snuggly in the breech, even with that stepped-taper in the end of the bolt probe, that hardly any play was questionably noticeable. I noticed, upon firing a H&N Sniper Light @ 7.5gr from it @ 10 pumps, it was a little bit louder. I hate that block on the breech end of the shorter, rifled 760-B-D barrels. Mine fits really tight and it's a couple degrees out of vertical orientation. Couldn't move it without fear of breaking it. Good thing I'm putting a scope on it.

I ran into a bit of a problem over the weekend.  While testing the 760 for accuracy with different pellets, the heavy Gamo hunting pellets started hanging up in the breech.  I had the rod handy and was able to gently push them back out.  They didn't make it away from the bolt face (at five pumps) and I could see lead shavings in the breech once the bolt was retracted.  Strange...  You can see the distorted skirts in the photo.

In other news, I picked up a site-vise, three tins of pellets, a sheaf of targets, and two 20-ounce Co2 tanks at the flea market.  Not bad for less than $20!  Now I have to find (or make) a bulk-fill adapter for the QB78.

My Gamo Hunters in .22 @ 15.42gr looked better than those. Fit real snug and shot well too.
