Lloyd, those threads turned out better than your description would have led one to imagine. lol. I keep that vibration dampening hand around for the next one, it seems useful.
Ti has always been a pain to turn for me. I don't know why but milling has always gone better for me when it comes to Ti. Its that long, sharp, stringy chip i think. An old co-worker of mine had one of those long razors penetrate his thumb at the back of his finger nail and travel in a helix around the bone to come out at the top of the second knuckle of his thumb. He claims it just felt like something pushing on his thumb until he look down and got weak in the knees. leaving the hand on the tool post was a bad idea. Gave me the heebee geebee's. So stay forward of the cut with that hand Lloyd.

Engineering is the art of modeling materials we don't wholly understand, into shapes we can't precisely analyze, so as to withstand forces we can't properly asses, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance.

Bill, you are sooooo right! Every once in a while we have one of those close calls in the shop or outside that makes you sit down and think as the blood returns to your head. Kinda resets the safety awareness to the level that it should ALWAYS be at. It is always good to get reminders, though, because it might be something you are not aware of. I lost a little finger on the table saw when I was 16 by doing something that I had no idea was a big no-no. You can be sure that is a mistake I haven't made again!

An engineer by nature. The affliction is knowing that everything can be made better. It is easy to make one that works, but it is difficult to make on that works WELL.
