And just think Ive been using rabbits and scents and getting all dressed up to catch a coyote and all I had to do was throw a frog!!

That is interesting. Whoda thunk? When I was a young fisherman, I used to fish the local creek near my house. My fishing buddies and I discovered that Green and Blue herons were suckers for a plastic worm when it landed at the shore line or just barely on the bank.If it got their attention you could just crawl the worm until they "caught" it. We'd open the bail and let them get to tree top level before we "set the hook".  We would have to prop their beak open with a stick to remove our bait. After release ,they went right back to doing what heron's do apparently none the worse for wear. Haven't attempted to catch one in the last 40 years although while fishing a local lake a few years ago my fishing partner caught a loon on a big creek minnow while smallmouth fishing. When I saw his line rising up I just knew a big smalley was about to "jump". We were sure surprised when this big bird popped up on the surface. Released unharmed.

Catching a Loon sounds like a pia to say the least. - I used to own/run a charter boat in Salisbury, Ma. back in the 70's, - and we'd troll for Blue Fish quite a bit. - Every once 'n awhile that plug looked good to a seagull, what a job that was.

I imagine herons and loons are protected, at least down here in Virginia.  One of the man made lakes here has a great blue heron sanctuary on a small island.  No fishing in the vicinity.  I would NOT want to have one on the end of my line when the game warden came by, legal or not.

Coyotes.....hmmmm.........Hey, pup, can I borrow a couple of your Milk Bones?  No?  Dang.
