New to me Umarex Strike Point Multipump Pistol

First impressions
The lines of this pistol is modern, especially compared to the Crosman 1377. The pumping arm has a large flat area so that the last few pumps can be done with the pumping arm on lap. The included open sight is the only way to aim the gun. The front sight is too thick for my taste, while the rear sight is somewhat difficult to adjust.

Before modifications, cocking felt rough. The trigger also requires a lot of grindy pull.

The inside and mods
Taking the pistol apart is not difficult, but it is best to limit the number of teardowns because most parts are plastic. One screw came stripped to begin with!

The outer most part of the pistol has three parts. The grip and lower part of the pistol separates into left and right parts, while the top is its own part. Each piece of the outer part of the pistol is kind of flimsy, but once assembled felt surprisingly rugged. The "core" of the pistol is mostly metalic.

The spring pushing up the shear is very strong, contributing to the trigger pull issue. I clipped a part of the spring to lighten trigger pull a bit. Unfortunately, I did not record the trigger pull before. The difference is definitely significant.

The hammer spring is, by comparison, long and thin. However, there is no spring guide of any kind! When compressed, the spring bends and definitely contributes to accuracy issues. I made a spring guide out of a section of a bamboo chopstick. One end of this chopstick is wide enough to stop the spring from going further, that end goes into the hammer. The narrower end extends out of the back of the spring stop. This means drilling out the spring stop just enough to let the chopstick through. That was the easier part of the mod. I also had to dremel the outer shell of the pistol to let the chopstick through, that part took longer.

While I had access, I polished both the hammer and the shear, at least where they meet.

Putting the whole thing back together was easy, but I had to be careful not to overtorque the screws.

Post mod performance

I  am still testing the pistol out. However, the initial impression is that the gun cocks smoother (due to the spring guide/chopstick), trigger pull is lighter, and pistol movement is more iinear when fired. I will be cleaning up the barrel next and then test for muzzle velocity consistency, and then accuracy.

Is it worth $50?

My initial answer is no. The pistol has no rail to mount any optics, and it is unlikely that anyone will sell aftermarket mod parts for this pistol. In other words, from the modification perspective, the Strike Point is a dead end.

The one good thing about the Strike Point is the built-in moderator. The entire outer shell of the pistol is the moderator volume. However, there is no felt or sound dampening material in the outer shell to deaden sound. I suppose the pistol can be made quieter with some additional felt material glued to the inside of the outer plastic shell.

There's a lot of great engineering in this gun, but I agree its a dead end......

Like you, I was amazed at how strong the clamshells when assembled, and how flexible they are when apart........

I think teh value of this gun is for deer camp, or when youve some non-shooters around to entertain.........

I just got my Strike Point 22 cal this week. I was hoping for a bit more power. I'm not a pistol guy or a multi pump guy so it's all new to me but I'm going to give some non lead pellets a try and see what happens to the FPS and FPE.

All things considered, the pistol is decent after all the mods (spring guide and clipping off the shear spring).

It makes for a good platform to practice trigger pull because it is still pretty long and hard. Let off is now more predictable. I will do some more work on this pistol when I have time and post some results.
