I started shooting three position small bore(.22lr) at 13 competitively. The first thing dad did after helping me buy the Anschtuz rifle was find a coach to teach me. I shot 300m ISU while I was in the US Army. I did Schuetzen shooting with my Low Wall Winchester in .32-40. I used a palm rest in the Winchester and used my knuckles in 3 position and ISU. Always used a leather shooting glove.

Without a glove, my knuckles HURT from the weight of the rifle on my knuckles. For those that hold the rifle in the palm, the glove helps to insulate the rifle from the blood pulsing in the veins in the hand.
The GLOVE helps to keep your beer colder, longer! I know .... your trying to be serious and helpful, and then this jerk comes along and posts. I'd throw me off the forum. Pappy / Allan
I never used gloves but thinking getting one. Will any leather gloves do or should be getting special ones?

Will any leather gloves do or should be getting special ones?I think it depends on HOW you support the rifle.- If you rest the rifle on your fist, like I do, an old ski glove should work fine, as you just want padding on your knuckles.- - I tried a garden glove, NO GOOD, no padding on the knuckles, HURTS.- If you rest the rifle on your palm, I have to bow to others, as I don't know what substitutes are available.Shooting gloves are not very expensive, $30 at Champion's Choice. So IMHO, not worth buying a used one.http://www.champchoice.com/store/Main.aspx?p=ItemDetailOptions&item=CC105L
For those of you interested in a shooting glove, by a proper one. Nothing else is a good substitute. Also try a palm rest or making one if your rifle doesn't have one. Much easier to support a heavier rifle shooting offhand. Lots of really good books on how to contort your body for the "proper" offhand position. Your library may even have them! My coach was Colonel Lones Wigger when I was a teenager, three time Olympic shooter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lones_Wigger
