Need input on Weihrauch HW97K Air Rifle

Thinking of getting a Weihrauch HW97K Air Rifle in .177 or .22. Know nothing about springers. What do you think of them? Thanks  Craig

I have the thumbhole stock model in .177, it is heavy but I find it to be quite accurate - more accurate than I am (which, admittedly, may be a low bar).  That said, it is pretty heavy. I use it for target shooting, so that is an advantage. I very much like the balance and the grip angle.

I think you will find plenty of fans of the HW77 and 97 around here.

One of the best springers ever made.
I couldn't have gotten a better springer than the one I have.
Crazy accurate. Mine is a .20 though, but the other calibers are just as good.

Years ago I bought a .177 HW77k basically for some field target shooting and did find that it was a bit easier to shoot accurately than my lighter .177 R9 and actually took the "77" into the West Virginia "squirrel woods" for a couple hunts. I found that the extra weight plus the added "arm waving" required to cock, fish the pellet into the leade, re-latch the cocking lever, then shoot a quick second shot wasn't a very positive experience so I always took the R9 on squirrel hunts after that. LOL, after a few field target matches I left the "77" at home preferring to use the breakbarrel R9. After owning the HW77k for over a decade, I sold it a few years ago due to "lack of use" but I still have a .177 R9 and even bought a HW95 on sale a couple years ago to use as a "loaner gun".

Anywhoo....during the two day 2010 national field target match the hunter class was combined PCP and piston and I used my .177 HW77k. There were only 5 piston shooters out of 17 hunter class entries that year yet I took 4th place with the "77" (basically a Plain Jane HW97).............

If I was to buy a New Springer, I would buy the HW97, I have the HW100 PCP, from what I hear from HW97 owners, it is just as accurate as my HW100... any caliber would be great......

I have a 97K in .177 and it is the most accurate of my 5 springers.  Amazing trigger.  It is heavy though, as another poster mentioned.  I use mine for punching paper.
