SMK Westlake S2

Hi, I am looking for some advice.
I recently (yesterday) bought a new SMK Westlake S2 purely because I want to build my own stock/grip for it. Being as it is a cheap pistol I thought it would be an interesting project. Normally I make electric guitars!
I was surprised how aesthetically pleasing these pistols are now compared to older models. The wood is good and they now have fibre optic rear sites. The metal seems to be well engineered and finished although I can see that it would easily rust if not kept lightly oiled.

However, the first few times I fired it the pellet got stuck half way down the barrel. I used a wire brush rod with some oil to clean the barrel and managed to get it to fire. But then I noticed that the barrel doesn't quite line up with the spring chamber (please see picture).  Is there some way to rectify this? I'm wondering if the 2 screws shown in the picture would cater for some adjustment?  If I took the spring out how difficult would it be to put it back together again? Would I need special tools?

I don't want to return it to the shop because I had to order it and it took me several weeks to finally receive it. Even then there is no guarantee that a replacement one wouldn't be the same. Any advice would be much appreciated.

After taking a closer look I think that maybe the leather washer slightly overhangs on the bottom edge! I don't like the fact that there is no safety and I have to cock the pistol to work on the washer. First I will make a block to disable the trigger before working on the washer and see if that is the cause.  I'll let you know the result.

No, the barrel still droops slightly. Any ideas?

I worked on the plastic grip one years ago. It's kind of the 'luck of the draw",whether you get a drooper or not.

First thing I'd do would be to replace the leather breech seal with an appropriate sized O ring. You may have to experiment with these to get the right diameter. Also,you may have to shim that O ring a bit for contact with the breech/receiver face. A couple of winds of dental floss under the O ring can help.
 Take the tiny set screw out and give the pivot bolt a turn to the next position. Replace the set screw. Helps to tighten things up a bit.
I would do the tissue test when you shoot. Cock and load a pellet,aim at your target,and lay a tissue over the point where breech/receiver meet.
 This will tell you if you have a tight seal. Shouldn't move or tear.

 There may be a spring loaded detent(wedge shape or maybe a ball) that locks the barrel into position when closed.
 Sometimes that spring can be replaced with a stiffer one that will better line things up.

Just guessing here, like I said it's been years. Hope this helps. Maybe someone with some knowledge will chime in.

Hey thank you Matchstickshooter, I will try the O-ring change to start with and the tissue test. I will try to post pictures of the locking mechanism later. I think it is the wedge type. ...off to work now.
