Okay- weird tank question

Realistically, for purposes of tethering, at around 1200 psi to 2800 psi output- how practical would it be to use a 68/88/100 cubic inch 4500 psi tank?  Lets assume all safety concerns and bleed lines have been accounted for.  Is this enough air for effective tethering?  Lets also assume a full fill on the guns reservoir- be it a airforce gun, Mrod, Brod, QB79, or a Disco.  Calibers ranging from .177 to .25.  Looking at around  12 fpe-40 fpe.

I fill my marauder .25 with a 90 cu in 4500 carbon fiber tank . I get 8 to 10 fills from 2000 to 3000.

My disco I have a 62 cu in bottle 3000 psi regulated to 1800 I put on it and get over 100 shots it's like 160  I think .  You could tether the smaller bottles and put them on a belt like I used to do when I paintballed

unless you are in the process of tuning or at the range doing testing or long range shooting, I don't see any reason to tether, as long as the tank is regulated to the proper operating pressure of the gun, you should be OK, I've never had to tether, I do like to see what shot count I get from a charge so I don't do it.

Only problem would be is they would all need regulators on them and would have stay with that gun because of different pressure settings

they make adjustable regulators for tanks so one regulator will work for all guns, just adjust pressure to the gun, when needed to change, swap to another tank or swap guns and adjust regulator pressure.

Absolutely, tethering to a 90 CI tank with a regulated output will give you stable pressure and a ton of shots.... 90 CI = nearly 1500 cc or about 7 times the reservoir size of an MRod....

It works great.  I do it often when I go to shoot at longer ranges and I plan to kill a tin in a session.  One thing I don't recommend is to remove the ball from the bottom of the piston if you get one with a 800psi regulator.  That is what I did and instead of replacing the spring for belleville washers, I just punched the ball out of the piston so as to render the regulator useless.  I have blown a couple o-rings now like this.  I have many spares but it not worth it when you expect the tank to be full only to find it empty.  I have 2 66cuin tanks given to me that I run like this.  Just properly set the reg pressure and make sure the orings can handle the pressure.  800psi set ups wont last long but there is no need to pay ninja $100 or so a reg for their 2900psi regs and on top of that have to buy their fill station to go with it because they use a ball seat rather than a pin seat at the output side.

You can make you something like this for less than $50 dollars to test the regulator output if you have to replace the spring with belleville washers.  I screw this into an on/off valve for paintball tanks.  1/8" NPT on the valve.  Everything else is 1/4" NPT so I only needed the one reducer.

Adding a question in this thread. 

I know it'll be safe to tether if you're using male and female Fosters, but anyone tether using just a fill probe with nothing to stop your whip and probe from accidentally being pulled out?  I don't ever plan to do it, even bench shooting as it seems dangerous.  But does anyone else do it?

I've never tethered either of my fill probe pistols, only guns I have that don't use fosters...

If I were going to, I think one of those Velcro cable wraps would add the needed safety. Wrap it around the air line just behind the probe, then over the tube and back on itself, should keep the probe from accidently being pulled out.

One thing for sure, that fill probe would leave a nice mark if it pulled out and started whipping around with the hose!

Not busting your balls, just asking. Is that a galvanized black iron Tee on your output test gauge?
If so, I don't know if I would trust that to the pressures, even if it were schd 80.
I would like to see a steel piece made for hydraulic systems. You can get them through Motion, Grainger, or McMaster Carr.
Same with the rating on the Ball valve.

Also, I was wondering the same Jeremy.  That shutoff looks like a regular low pressure shutoff but I could be wrong.

So the whip off of the bottle is a ninja slide check micro bore whip.  The tee... I honestly don't know it's rating.  I bought everything to make that from a local hydraulic shop and even though I explained what I needed, I am not sure they fully understood.  I was told they could handle over 2500psi so I got the pieces. That piece has never seen more than 2400psi.  The ball valve is also a standard ball valve.  Obviously this piece doesn't see much use but if there is a fear for safety, the same kinds of parts can be bought that will satisfy anyone's safety needs. This is just what I made.

I'm not too concerned about it- If I do end up tethering one (or more) of my guns, it'll be a static shooting position... at my window... facing my garden...  for scientific reasons...   

Again, if I end up setting up a static shooting position, I will probably be making some sort of box/carrying thing for the tank.  Which would be more than enough...  The concern for me isn't the whip accidentally coming out, but the tank suddenly falling off the bench, or in my case, possibly kicked over- then the whip could come out that way.  But, setting the tank in a box of some sort would solve that problem for me.
