Gamo urban vs maximus

So I'm looking for a new squirrel hunting PCP. I have a hatsan at 44 qe that shoots lights out but it gets heavy lugging it around very far. Am looking at the gamo urban and the Benjamin maximus in 22. I'm looking for something lightweight, quiet ( would put TKO on maximus), and something easy to fill with a hand pump. The max only needs 2000psi with a 135 cc tank while the gamo needs 3000 psi but with only a 105 cc tank I believe. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone own either of these? Likes and dislikes

although I don't own one, Gamo urban.
Multi shot will be much better for walking around, it's a light, short gun and it's moderated. BSA makes these for Gamo, so, you'll get a better quality barrel and probably overall quality gun. down side might be parts availability IF you need any. Mag's are expensive, I'd do my best to make do with the one that comes with the gun.
I do own a Maximus. Light, LONG, especially once you add a moderator. Single shot is not ideal for walking around, doable , I'd rather have a mag.
Filling either by hand pumping will be easy enough.
COST, Maximus has a slight edge when just looking at the rifle cost. Add in a moderator and the price is nearly equal to this Walmart deal.....

I had a Maximus .177 that I used occasionally for squirrel when I hunt hard terrain because it's so lightweight and super accurate. I haven't had a chance to handle the Gamo yet but I had a Gamo coyote that was lights out accurate as well but a little on the heavy side. hand pumping a Maximus is super easy compared to a 3k+ gun. I hand pumped a .25 marauder the first 9 months I owned it. the wife liked it because of the new muscles but it made controlling heart rate and breathing difficult plus it took way less time to shoot 16 shots than it did to pump it back. my hobby is shooting not pumping. I would go with the Maximus hunter version. same gun but with a threaded adapter on the end for accessories so you have a wider choice of what you use to make it quiet. my opinion, get the max and have fun. if you decide you want to dive all the way in you can grow from there. watch the classifieds and see how many max/disco come up for sale. lots. doesn't mean they are bad, just that people move on to bigger repeaters or more power. they sale quick so if you decide to get something different down the road, you can sell it and put the cash towards the new one. might even want to buy one from the classifieds. save a few bucks and know that you're getting one that's not leaking when you get it.
the urban has the pedigree (BSA) to be awesome. the few that have posted about them have been happy with accuracy and size. I will eventually get one to see for myself. a member here makes a shroud conversion for them that shortens them even further. if you're willing to spend $400 for the Gamo, you might want to wait for the gauntlet or even consider a used gun. I've been seeing several nice rifles around that price range in the various classifieds lately. you may be able to get something better than both you're considering. good luck either way you go. worst case scenario is you have to sell it on the classifieds and you'll get to meet a fellow air gunner in the process. dive in!

Hi Darin,
I'm glad to see you are member here on GTA!
So just a couple things that came to my mind you might consider:
Filling the Maximus to 2000psi vs the Gamo urban to 3300psi the maximus will be much easier to pump up
and by that I mean that each stroke will take less effort, they may in fact take close to the same number of strokes to fill
but a stroke at 2000psi is much easier than at 3000psi, both are doable and depending on your build 3000psi may be easy(I'm a medium build 155lbs 5'10)
in .22 the maximus's I've chronographed get about 30 shots per fill at 20fpe with 14.3gr pellets
and the gamo urban will get about 32 shots at 23fpe with 18.1gr pellets(that is going with the results from Tyler@PA)
So pretty much the same power and shot count.
Weight: They are both nice lightweight rifles the maximus is about 1 1/2 pounds lighter.
But the Urban has a BSA breech which is a repeater as well as a LDC built in and after you ad a LDC the maximus
it will be 5-6 inches longer than the urban. I haven't handled a urban but the stock looks nice and ergonomic,
the maximus is also very nice to handle and the stippling on the stock is a welcome upgrade over the discovery.
Accuracy, BSA hammer forged barrels are usually very accurate! there have been a few bad ones like with everything
but most are excellent in fact one of my most accurate rifles is a BSA scorpion SE which uses the same breech block design as the urban.
The maximus generally has very good accuracy as well, and parts are plentiful and cheap, many dealers including myself keep are good inventory on hand
and there are tons and tons of aftermarket accessories for it and the disco.
Triggerwise the maximus with marauder trigger is better IMO hands down. That is my biggest gripe with my BSA, I haven't checked any on around to much so you maybe able to improve the trigger,
and I'm sure I can get mine a little better but for my shooting the marauder trigger group is easily set to my favorite style.
So each has its pros personally for my uses I would go with the gamo urban at the price of $270 its a very good deal for a nice
lightweight good quality pcp, in fact I may be getting one at some point to test and maybe have as a loaner rifle.
But my uses may differ a bit from your intended use... What are you looking to do with the rifle?
Best Regards,

The gamo urban seems like a solid rifle. I believe you can sway the triggers with a CDT trigger which make them alot better but I'm not 100% sure on that. I've had gamo break barrels and a few maximus and honestly would probably go with the gamo at this point as it is quiet and has a very solid repeater breech with a BSA barrel. Hard to beat honestly at $270
