Conor thanks for posting this as I am sure many of us receive a well needed reminder to always pay attention to what you are doing and to practice safety at all times. I'm glad to hear that it looks like it is a warranty issue.

For future referance, you do not need to fully cock the rifle to load it. As a safety precaution you can smack it just enough to break it open, then load a pellet into the breach. Then you can cock it and are ready to go. It may seem trivial, but none of us want to see anyone injured.

That is the ONLY way I will load a break barrel.
