Beeman R 1 .177 barrel swap

I've got a Beeman R1 in .177 that I purchased in the early 1980s. I picked up a .25 caliber barrel from JW Chambers. I'm in the process of drilling and tapping the barrel/receiver block in order to mount the cocking lever without a permanent rivet. Has anyone up sized or down sized their R1 with a barrel change out? What was your opinion of the result?
I didn't have the heart to pull my old R1 (San Rafael version) apart...fortunately I found another much newer R1 on line. I mounted an HW 80 .25 caliber barrel and the R1 handles it quite nicely.

I just found this old article but still decided to reply to it.I had or still have a San Rafael r1 that was in .177 I sent it out years back to Paul watts for a tune and a barrel swap .22 the results were great with the tune and new .22 cal barrel.I just got back into airguning have recently purchased a new full tune b12 and xs60 co2 from mike melick at flying dragon and at 10 meters offhand I shoot best with that r1,all guns are open sights.the r1 weight and balance and trigger and tune really help with my consistency. My old r1 just fits like a glove and the new .22 cal barrel is great.

Wish I could do this with my 80s R1, the .177 is light for that gun.

Im sure you can, that's what a tuner did with mine and is also an 80's r1.Sure it won't be an original anymore but I did not regret the results especially after that first 22 cal pellet comes out of that barrel and hits that target with a smack and you'll know that what that gun was made for and it is a weihrauch barrel.
