Texan and lighter slugs

Is just before the first Mark toward the trigger with Nicks 168gr EPP @950fps and 2900 psi sound about right? Today was the first time I shot my Texan. 2.5 marks toward the trigger was 340fps from the factory. Once I got it zero'd it shot 3/4" 3 shot group. Just wondering if that much HS tension is normal. Still have the last space left to play with. The speed is plenty at 360fpe.

If your getting good accuracy roll with it, but having that much tension on the spring puts alot more stress on your valve n top hat. You will probably experience early spring fatigue wich has been a problem with the texan hammer springs having it that tight. I have shot hundreds of Nicks 168 grain epp slugs with my power wheel near factory settings n still have great accuracy out to 100 yards. Hope i understood your question right?

Spring fatigue is a huge problem with Texans    . When you buy the new spring from African Air Ordnance you now get a set  3 stainless steel springs in different lengths , these were designed to work with the 4500 psi upgrade but will solve any hammer problems you  may run into .
Also the spring issue with Texans is the reason for low Psi  valve lock .  Also changing out the spring  will improve the accuracy of this awesome rifle . One reason accuracy can be an issue is the hammer is not opening the valve the same amount every shot  due to the crappy factory spring .
I have no doubt that the accuracy issues in the new 9mm and 308 will improve when guys switch out the factory springs . By the way the factory springs start to give problems within the first 250 to 750 shots

You will  soon run into the issue of valve lock   it happens slowly  first at around 3000psi  the at 2800 psi then 2500 psi and again at 2000 psi and you will have your spring maxed all the way down and you wont be able to full more than 2000 psi .  Its will happen over time   the adjuster holes for that weight of bullet should be almost in the middle of that window not cranked all the way down   .
If you ever remove your hammer spring  from the rifle   measure it length right away . the wait a day and measure it again you will find it length has changed  and its gotten longer  . this is a clear sign of spring fatigue

I'm trying to get in contact with appalachian airgunne. I see he's a dealer for AAO. Does he happen to have the springs? I'd rather not pay $35 shipping for a spring.

There are custom spring shops around Europe, so I recon there are shops in the states also, was it century springs or something? Just take measurements and choose a spring to your liking.
That's what I would do. No offense to AAO or Jeremy but shipping from around a globe for a single spring is expensive.

None taken but its actually a set of 3 springs   works out at $20 a spring including shipping also its not quite as simple as that. there is alot more to the simple spring than meets the eye . just one thing to take into account is how much the spring will expand its width when compressed  this is important because of the small gap between the barrel and the inside of the hammer tube this can cause the spring to lock up against the hammer tube and you wont be able to cock the rifle  this also applys to the ID of the spring  to small and it will lock onto the barrel  This also effects the thickness of wire you can use . Alot of spring makers do not Scrag there springs correctly this can  cause early spring collapse and this is the problem with the factory springs who ever made them for Airforce  should be shot . So all these factors have to be taken into account when having a custom spring made and that s why it gets expensive  because you will only know if it works once its made
You will only know if the Scragging was done rite  by measuring it before you install  it shoot it a  a couple of hundred times  take the spring out if its still the same length as when you install it you know that it was made correctly  .

Yeah there is a lot of info that needs to be known, but good quality manufacturer will listen to the customer and delivers what is ordered.
They will tell you the minimum compression length that the spring can take, the coil forces neutral and compressed etc.
I was referring to industrial grade springs not some wallmart &^^&. We have lesjöfors that makes the best springs that I'm aware of.
But you have your own supplies in states.
And Jeremy you are right about the engineer in af considering the springs. Should not be doing his or her job.
Not very thorough testing I would say.

Good talk fellas...I am having spring issues as my fps has fallen off dramatically...Yup, I kept it cranked up all the way for the last 1 and a half years lol...blame it on the newbie syndrome  ...I have vowed to "crack open the books" on these pcp air rifles and get the work on them....So, I'm asking;

the heavier bullets get LESS tension and the lighter bullets get MORE   ?

That's the way it reads Pepe. Mine is still like my pic and shoots 143gr roundball 1010fps and 345gr 805fps on 3000psi fill. Will be interesting to see what the magnum spring will do when I get it. You can try some 30wt silicone oil in the top hat. Seemed to fix Randy's and his is cranked all the way up. By the way when are you inviting me down for a Texan deer hunt?
