The barrel under the break is turned down smaller and splined so it won't look good uncovered.

Light heat and wood dowel will remove the thing. Or cut the sight off and grind smooth and then bedliner the muzzle brake. The barrel not only has the step but is knurled . Many muzzle brakes out there. Jm make a nice alum long one that fits very good and is priced right. Hard to remove the factory muzzle with out some damage but it is re usable. I hated that ghost image as well.FANG
