So seeing marketing on the air bolt and videos was really intriguing.  But after a short search its only available for for the .50 Dragon Claw models. Has anyone out there tried making their own bolts for the 909?  Just wondering because the concept doesn't seem that difficult.  Also in all my searches the 909 is usually modded.  I bought this air rifle being an affordable big bore and not interested in sending it off for an overhaul.  I also wanted to cast lead for it. I have tested my EPP UG bullets 150 grain bullets at 675 fps.  Do you guys think that is a little slow?  At this kind of performance what size game would you be comfortable hunting?  T

That is definitely slow a stock 909 should shoot the EPP/UG much faster than that !!

You should be over 700fps with a 150gr slug for a stock gun. I am using a 155gr slug on the high setting I am getting on average 750 to 760fps.  The Lee REAL 200gr is averaging 680 on high power, my gun is stock. I am just curios, are you pulling the hammer all the way back, the numbers that you have mentioned look like you are shooting on the low power setting.

I don't think a sufficiently strong arrow shaft would work in the .45 . It would be to large a diameter for the vanes, arrow shaft and suitable nock to fit . my carbon crossbow arrows are .338 outer diameter . Pretty sure that is why they only offer the "air bolts" for .50 . Is your 909 the 290cc double or 500cc double ?

Own a tuned 909 single tube that shoots Hornady 145 grain round balls at over 900 fps. So yes, I will say 675 is slow. For me the flatter flight path of a faster bullet is always better. Along with higher fps comes more fpe, which results in quicker more humane kills.

IMO it is a bit slow, even my tuned Evanix throws 168 grain EPP/UGs at 800+ fps.

My 909 is a double or a twin 500? Not sure how to tell the difference as I thought it was the latter.  I always thought something was strange with it as I can't fill it all the way up to 3000 psi.  It will shoot way slow.  Old data shows me 720 with Hornady round ball just over 2000 psi.  Low power was 477 and pressure had to drop way low to get over 600 fps.  This gun confuses me and am finding out the hard truth, that it has to be tuned.  The arrow thing was just a thought, the crossbow is silent anyway!  Disappointed as it is a beautiful piece but way to loud for its performance.  Which is one of the main reasons I use air rifles.  I have seen Jim Chapman's video from years ago where he states the fps on his was 650 to 700 fps with round balls. So was hoping the EPP UG wasn't a total bust.   Thanks for the replies.

The 290cc model had the fill port next to the barrel and on the 500cc it is on the second tube . 675fps is healthy for a 290cc but slow for a 500cc . You do not necessarily need it tuned . If it is shooting slow and has a problem with the fill pressure you could have it repaired to factory spec . Depends on what you are planing on using it for . For target shooting a stock power level makes more sense to me since it won't use as much air . If you plan to hunt coyote size game it would be fine stock, a tune would probably be a good idea for deer .

Matthew, thanks for that info!  Looks like mine is probably a double 290 according to those numbers. I bought it used and wondered why the guy has the fill port next to the barrel.  I should have done more research before the purchase.  Probably still kill lots of critters under 50 yards as it pounds through 2x10 boards at 30 yards.  I was just getting frustrated hearing everyone else's stats on their guns and was confused why mine was so far behind.  T

glad I could help . It would still be plenty powerful enough for coyote and maybe small deer at archery ranges . 675 fps with 150gr epp/ug is faster than the stock one saddle mountain tested with round ball so its shooting pretty well .  I don't know what's up with the fill pressure . It should be a 200bar max fill . What fill pressure did it work best with ? It kind of sounds like the hammer spring may be light but I am not a pcp tuner by any means . Hopefully you can find some one who can help with that .

Make sure the Tank you are filling from has 3000 psi or more air in it if your main tank does not have at least 3000 psi in it you wont be able full to 3000 psi   . Also if your main Tank does have 3000 psi in it and your gun is not reflecting the same pressure you may have a faulty pressure gauge  on your rifle ..

Make sure the Tank you are filling from has 3000 psi or more air in it if your main tank does not have at least 3000 psi in it you wont be able full to 3000 psi   . Also if your main Tank does have 3000 psi in it and your gun is not reflecting the same pressure you may have a faulty pressure gauge  on your rifle ..

Jeremy, I never use tanks, pump only so I use the pressure gauge readings from it.  I've read great things about your products but didn't feel like working on this rifle myself.  Have done work on springers and pumpers but when machining is involved I just don't have the tools.  I started the thread thinking I had the 500 cc rifle and wondered why my velocities were so slow.  Now I understand that I have a healthy gun in the 290cc model.  Thanks for all the help.
