Webley VMX Spring Rifle?

I'm looking for a spring rifle and need some information on the Webley VMX.

Do any of you have one and what do you think of it?

Don't have the VMX but I have a .177 Spector, for all intents same rifle with different badging and stock. It's also comparable to the Hatsan Striker springers.
My Spector with just a barrel cleaning and a drop of lube on pivot points and such was pretty accurate straight out of the box with RWS Superdome pellets. It also shoots the RWS R 10 match pellets seriously well.
The target in the picture was open sights at 20 yards, took me maybe 5 tweaks to get the w/e set. It shoots even better with a scope. 2nd picture was with one of Hatsan's cheap Optima scopes at 30 yards, which broke right about 500 shots, so now it has a Centerpoint 3-9x32.
It's a bit noisy but nothing a decent tune and proper lube won't take care of.

edit: Came to mind after I posted so I checked... AoA still has the Webley Tomahawk on sale. $159.99 for the .177, $169.99 for the .22 (about what you'll pay for the VMX), both spring piston with Quattro trigger and the SAS plus a very pretty wood stock and for an extra $30 you can get a Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 AO IR scope that normally sells for $129.99...I have one, very nice scope.

The reason I'm looking at the VMX is that it's available in 5mm/.20 caliber. There's got to be a few guys here that have one?

I picked up one of those .177 Spectors around Christmas time when they had that crazy $45 sale on them on Amazon. All I can say is it's a little beast to shoot. I have referred to it on more than one occasion as being violent. I really need to tear it down and give it a good tune and grease the daylights out of that spring.

Don't get me wrong, it does shoot well with the open sights, it just kicks like a little mule and is noisy. Here's the data sheet and target from when I bought it. I hardly shoot it and don't really know why I even bought it, except it was "such a deal!"

I've got one. I wanted a .20 cal springer in my collection and the VMX was the lowest cost option. I paid about $160 off Amazon but now they have'em for $143 and AoA has'em for $134+shpng. I filled the butt stock with old pellet, I prefer a heavy gun. Also the trigger adjustment screw replacement mod is cheap and works. I got mine down to about 2.5 lbs. Good shootin' little gun. It's a keeper. Off set one piece scope mount helps or move the scope stop to the front holes with the front scope ring back against the scope stop.

But like Steve said the Tomahawk from AOA is the best buy around. Same gun as the Hatsan 95. Beautiful gun. Shoots good. Quatro trigger in it seems better than the ones in the Hatsans or it could be I got lucky. Buddy of mine who shot it and owns a TX200 still brags on my .177 Tommy. It usually sales for $250. AoA has it for $159 and if you buy it they'll sale you a $130 Hawke scope 3-9X32AO mildot lum for $30. Good scope, it was my second. Not a big choice in .20 ammo.

AoA charges shipping. Total was about $215. It came with a pamphlet with a photo of the 5 shot(all touching) group and a chrony tape with 8 shots (avg. about 980) They mounted the scope (crooked), double boxed and the inner box they used had the same foam comes in a hard case. Nice job.

 Buy'em both. I did and they're both keepers. If you get a .177 Tommy a bigger pellet can give you about the same FPE.

I bought a Webley VMX .177 cal when Amazon had them on sale at a silly low price. I read here about Hatsan and how many people liked them, so I thought that I would try one.
The gun was really unshootable out of the box. The shot cycle was violent, jarring, and so loud that I did not want to shoot it. The hollow stock transmits the sound down to the butt and the sound seems to reverberate. My right ear is my 'good' ear and is near enough to the stock to make me worried whenever I shot it. Yes, I know, but ear plugs are a hassle that I don't need with my other air rifles.
The trigger was awful, too long travel and very heavy and sloppy side to side. I have a Diana with a T0-6 trigger, I know what an air gun trigger can be.
The rifle wouldn't group. The best that I could do was 4" groups at 10 meters. I cleaned the barrel with Balistol, but it didn't improve.
The rifle feels rough when cocking and needs more effort than I think it should. It feels like something is grinding, but I checked the action with the stock removed and could find nothing obvious. I oiled the barrel pivot and trigger group, but it is still rough. I think it needs a full tune.
I read here at GTA about people filling hollow plastic stocks with foam to improve the sound when shooting air guns. I stuffed the butt of the Webley with gray impact absorbing foam as described in the posts. It definitely helped! I was so impressed that I also put foam in my Remington Express. I recommend this, it works.
I read many Hatsan (Webley) posts when I searched here on GTA, and I did the trigger mod with the bolt replacement. That helped the trigger, but it still has too much travel and is loose. It was shootable after that, but I was hoping for an even smoother sound when I read a post about ordering a walnut stock from Hatsan. I ordered the 'walnut' stock as per the instructions in the post. I received the stock, but I don't think that it is walnut. It doesn't look like any walnut that I have seen, but it is nice, good checkering, nice finish, big soft rubber butt pad, a good stock, but it looks like beech. It just shows how well the foam trick works that after switching stocks I didn't notice any reduction in sound.
I was shooting it the other day to find a pellet that it shoots well and could not get any better than a 2" group at 10 meters. I thought that it might be me, so I grabbed the Remington Express and I was able to shoot dime size groups. I have some bore paste on order, perhaps the barrel needs more cleaning.
I can not recommend this rifle.
Just for giggles, I got out my UK made Webley Vulcan from the 1980's to compare to the new Webley. The fit and finish on the metal of that old Webley action is beautiful. What a contrast to the rough finish on the new Webley action. The old Webley Vulcan stock is OK, but nothing special, the new Hatsan wood stock is better.

Joe, had the same noise and kick issues with mine as you do so I tore it down. Had some black "stuff" that was more oily than any kind of spring tar and there was actually rust on the tophat. After deburring, honing and polishing everything, a new ARH seal because I was in there anyway and moly in all the places it needed to be, it's now a smooth, quiet still seriously accurate rifle. Mine is also in a soft bedded Striker wood stock. I shanked a couple, but there's 25 pellets in the target and the pellets were H&N Sniper Medium 8.5gr. The chrony said 10 shot avg was 815 fps with an ES of 17 and an SD of 6. I'll have to get a couple hundred more through it and chrony it again to see how it settles after the tune.

The numbers are comparable to mine, which is good to see. I have a 1958 Benji on the bench right now, so when that's back together I'll probably tear into the Spector. I also. Need to tear into a new Benjamin Trail NP2 that needs a serious cleaning. Can't believe the nasty looking dried white stuff in all the joints.  Yuck!

My bore cleaner came in and I spent quite a while cleaning the barrel of my Webley VMX and testing and cleaning again over several days. It was very dirty. It is now grouping as opposed to being a scatter gun. Not great groups but it is encouraging. I'm getting under an inch at 10 meters. I will see how it goes with pellet selection. I haven't tried everything that I have available. So far it does well with RWS Hobby pellets.

My Webley was the first rifle in 6 at the time that I found a great pellet the first try. Someone recommended RWS Superdomes and they shoot really well. I got the Sniper Mediums after seeing a post about them and since I was ordering pellets, I got a tin. It also shoots the RWS R10 Match heavy 8.2gr pellets seriously well (better than the Domes) but they're kinda pricey.
I've got others but haven't tried any of them yet for as well as those 3 shoot.

I ordered some RWS Superdomes from Wally World because I saw on the bargain gate some sale pellets. I will try them when the order comes in.
